Running

Could running before a workout make the lifting easier? I tried lifting without running beforehand, and it seemed a lot harder.

I usually run a 5:45 mile before lifting. Is this just a simple example of warming-up before a workout and how it helps?

No. Bad idea.

Jogging for a few minutes is a good warm up. Sprinting (excellent time by the way) is not the best of ideas.

Only do cardio on non weight training days or at least 8-12 hours before you even look at a weight.

Don't neglect your rest days however.

I usually do a quick 10 minute session on the stationary bike just to get the blood flowing; lifting is tough for me at first if I'm totally "cold". Running that mile will probably hit your glycogen stores pretty hard, though. You may feel warmed up, but chances are you won't be able to give the lifting 100%. Like Robboe said, split it up.
