I put $20 in my 4-runner yesterday and my gage only went to a 1/2 tank.

Cocksukas!

1) Deteras1, your sig is fucking up the page width.

2) I remember the FIRST time regular fuel broke $1/gallon, in in 1978. I drove a 1973 Fiat 128 SL at the time, and was incensed when it took $10 to fill up.

Someone launched a campaign called "To Hell With Shell!" on the theory that they were first company to break the dollar barrier, and if they lost because of it the other companies would try harder to hold the line.

I remember selling gas at 27.9 cents a gallon. Summer job. :)

Back in the 20's?

Ah, children. Gas was cheap for a very long time.

The need to add a dollar digit caught the pump makers by surprise. A lot of places set their pumps for 51.9 cents and multiplied the bill by two (so the price was $1.028 instead of $1.029 -- and some people freaked at that tenth of a cent.

digger I heard that adjusted for inflation - gas is still much cheaper than it was in decades past. does it seem that way to you now or does that sound like BS?

I rememeber hearing my father talking about the gas wars in Charlotte, NC, and gas going for .10 cents. People were driving from all around to fill up tanks, etc...

That must have been in the mid to late 60's......

Can you imagine??

Well, when you consider that you could buy a new Rolls Royce or Ferrari for what an Accord sells for these days, I suppose that's not too far fetched.

Yup, a new Daytona or Silver Shadow was $19,995.

Adjusting for inflation? Well, look at th price of a gallon of milk. There ya go.

i remember when we thought it was expensive at 78 cents after the valdeze oil crash in alaska..before that my parents were paying 70cents a gallon..oh well.

Yeah no shit. I put $20 in today and only got a little over 8 gallons. BS. Oh well it could be worse-we could have to cage fight to the death with an Arab everytime we needed to fill our tank. Just wait, it'll come to that soon enough. Oh, and we'll have to pay an entry fee.

$2.27/g for the cheap stuff here in MI.

In the week after the Exxon Valdez disaster, prices around here shot up from the .89 range to the 1.19-1.29 range.

hell! I remember when it was 25 cents per gallon.

I think the lowest I ever saw it in my lifetime was $0.199/gallon during the '60s gas wars.

Now that was a war I could muster up some nostalgia for.

$2.25 around here.
But, try not being able to get any gas and having to drive 30 miles for it. That's what we faced last year after the hurricanes here in Florida. We would have gladly paid $5 a gallon just to get it closer to home. What a riot. I've never seen people so freakin' pissed about not being able to get gas. God forbid if you were the one to drain the pump. You'd better run like you stole it.

Back in 1992 I remember going to get gas with my dad for $0.99/g. That's the lowest I remember ever seeing gas in my lifetime.

It was lower than that in '98-'99.
