Relevance of meal frequency?

Fonz's point is right on the mark in my opinion. The area under the curve for insulin will be the same whether you eat one or 6 meals per day. That is to say that your body will produce the exact same amount of insulin. However the spike of insulin will be much higher after one meal, and one large meal often temporarily inhibits insulin sensitivity as well. This means that blood glucose will stay higher and for longer. This is not good for you in the long term, and may lead to conditions such as type II diabetes. I also agree that fewer meals are better for bulking, but I have not tried once a day for cutting. I like the hunger control I get from smaller frequent meals when dieting. However I know that there are people that get good fatloss results while cutting on one meal a day, so clearly they are still managing to burn that fat off over a 24 hour period.
