Question for the ladies

Hi ladies,

I have a question. When you (personally) lose body fat, does your period get out of whack? How does your body react? I ask because my period is late by a little over a week, and no, I'm not pregnant - I took a test and everything. I am good health according to the check up I had a couple months ago, so the only thing I can think of is the fact that I'm now working out just about every day and have been for about 1.5 months and am actually starting to see a difference (yay!)

I feel like it's going to start soon becuase now I'm getting my usual symptoms, but I thought I'd ask to see if this is normal becuase my period is usually really predictable.

Thanks!

What is your bodyfat at?

Are your workouts more intense? How often do you workout and how long have you been working out like that?

It is very individual I lost my period all except for a day or 2 of spotting for 3 months then a week before my show I got a full on period. In general it will happen because of lower body fat but to be honest if it has only been a month and half of training I am doubtful that is why. Can you think of any other stress in your life that is causing you to miss it? A great number of things can cause a lose in period. If you started taking a new supplment say or anything like that.

I haven't tested my body fat in a while and I'm planning to do so in about 2 weeks. Although I can see some difference in muscle gain, I don't think I've lost alot of fat %-wise.

I'm not really that stressed. Stressed about being broke, but that's nothint out of the ordinary lol.

Since I began working out I've completely changed my diet - I've been eating clean for the most part and weight training 5-7 days a week (alternate upper and lower body) and doing cardio for about 20-30 minutes 3 times a week.

I started taking T-rex about a week ago.

I thought maybe it was the change in activity level that has made my hormones screwy, but who knows. I don't think anything's 'wrong' with me but since this is not something that is normal for me, I wanted to check with you guys. Maybe it's the changing seasons :p

It's probably due to the change in your activity level. You may not "be stressed" or "feel stressed" but you are putting added stress on your body that it's not used to.

You know I would not worry too much. As women, our bodies change all the time and most of the time without any warning. We are women and sometimes very unpredictable.

You have made some changes in your life (losing weight). I would not disregard that fact. If you were regular up until now. I would have to derive a conclusion and say that is your reason. All women are very different and react to things in different ways.

At both the beginning and the end of your reproductive life, you probably will have irregular periods. Teenagers do not usually establish a normal pattern for a year or so, and women approaching menopause become irregular, often with shorter cycles, before they stop menstruating altogether.

With those exceptions, you will probably maintain the same pattern once you have established your cycle. Yet no one is completely regular. Stress, anxiety, significant weight loss, travel across a couple of time zones, illness, and some uncommon diseases can cause erratic periods. Contraceptive methods that depend on abstinence during fertile days can fail since these factors may alter your cycle.

If you have no periods at all, very short cycles, or heavy bleeding, talk to your doctor. Hormonal imbalances often cause these difficulties, and most therapies prescribed for them are hormonal.

Don't worry it will come when it's good and ready:)

I skipped two because of lower BF and I think my Var cycle. Normally you can skip when your BF is 14% or lower. 14% and lower is extremely low for women. Noemal is 18%-24%. What's youBF right now? If it's that low that's probably your problem and it's normal. LOL! :)

Thanks you guys, I feel better now ;)

Whenever I get my bf tested again (which should be soon) I'll start a new thread on my progress.

MysticR, I've been tracking my period VERY carefully for ... well, let's just put it this way, a long, long time. I'm very "natural," never took (I won't count 3 weeks over 21 years ago) BC pills, and my BF is in relatively "normal" ranges.

At least once, and very rarely twice a year, for no really good reason -- and absolutely NO possibility of a pregnancy and early miscarry -- I will skip a period then get two in one month, sometimes two weeks apart. Haven't seen a rhyme or reason to it, the only thing I've noticed is that it has never happened from May to October (but that's my body).

Back in my mid 40's i started to notice that any major change in my regular 'body' schedule was almost always tacked to a major physical change elsewhere in my life. Exercise, diet, even location. I think that even stresses that carry no other physiolgogical symptoms effect that most delicate of processes. Everyone goes through changes in lattitude due to emotional upheavals, those are are easy to pinpoint. Its the more subtle enviromental interference that we oft overlook as its not glaring in our faces.

Surely a very low body fat % will knock things about, but even a drastic overall change will do it, even if the end product isnt extraordinarily low bodyfat.

Hon, if it bothers you, go see your doctor to take the worry out of it. If she comes back with a no-flags report? Then its just 'one of those things'.

:)
