Question for all home gym owners

I have been looking to buy some new equipment, particulary a squat/power rack with an olympic bar and weights.

Do most of you buy your equipment second hand and if you do, where from? I look through the trading post which is the classifieds for Melbourne, Australia and i saw like 1 advertisment for a squat rack.

I was wondering if there was some way to purchase perphaps second hand gymnasium equipment that is good quality and resonably cheap.

So yeah do most of you have trouble getting second hand power racks in the US because there is just nothing around in Melbourne.

Just call all the regional gyms, and let them know that you are interested when they do an "upgrade" to buy some used equipment. You may have to wait a while, but they could also tell you a source for it...

Also, ask if they will buy you a new one from their account, so its discounted...

I searched forever for a used power rack but had no luck finding one. And if you find one on ebay the shipping would be a monster so you'd be just as good to buy one locally. I always try to find second hand stuff but just about every piece of equip you buy is gonna have weight to it so again you're faced with high shipping costs.

dude try local high schools and other gyms like the other guy said. High schools are get new equipment bout every other year or so and they could probably sell you some stuff cheap. I ain't makin fun, I'm askin seriously...do high schools in austrailia have weight programs? do they play football in highschool over there?

ok ill ring around a few high schools and local gyms and ask whether they have any old equipment they wanna sell or if not, where do they send their old equipment to. Although things like power racks dont really need replacing every year coz a metal cage cant really be improved.

Lol. Yes we do have weight rooms at high schools. Just coz we dont play american football, doesnt mean we dont need to get big. We have rugby over here which is like american football except we dont wear all the protective clothing you wear. We gotta make our own padding
