Prostitution.....should it be legalised?
No....I am not looking for a career change before you ask...

Just pondering about those poor women in Bradford, and the other year in Ipswich- and then going back further to the Yorkshire Ripper and Jack the Ripper and oooh....probably many many more of these women that we don't know about.

Now...I know its not a choice made because its a good option- most ( not all) of the women have drug problems or massive debts and are out on the streets because they feel they have no other choice....but quite obviously they are at the mercy of well......mad men.

Would it not be better to legalise prostitution, make brothels safe places where health checks can be done, condoms easily available and the women work in a place of safety?. Not only that they wouldn't have pimps taking their money and indeed...they could be taxed on their earnings

Because lets face it...its not called 'the oldest profession' for nothing.....its not going to go away is it?

Thoughts?

Many countries allow it, in Costa Rica for example it's legal, however "pimping" isnt because it may endanger the prostitutes, also they have a special health insurance card (almost free) with which they can constantly get testes and check ups, get birth control, condoms, etc if it's organized it may work, it's always incredibly dangerous though.

it works in nevada outside of city limits..

I think if it were legalised there would be a lot less crime and disease associated with it

I also think its illegality has more to do with puritanical views that are largely outdated more than anything

Of course, NO!!!
I know that in some countries it is legalized but I do not see any advantages in this. This activity promotes violence by girls who are forced to do this, increase the risk of various diseases and HIV infection. And we can find another set of flaws ... Do we want our children to live in this society?

Legal or not, prostitution is an industry filled with hardcore drugs, pimps, abuse, rape, std's, and just creepy people. I would say no.

I would say no. My "puritanical views" aside, I see no real benefit to legalizing a girl's choice to devalue herself. Legal or not women in that profession will always be viewed as "less than" & objectified by men (& angry wives/girlfriends) so they would still be targets for violence. There is a reason so many truly horrible serial killers name pornography as a key factor in their dehumanization of people in general but especially women.

It absolutely should be legalized. How damned stupid is it that something is legal to do for free and illegal if there's money involved?

Also, were it legal, violence against women would decrease because if a client beats a prostitute, she can call the cops. I think the Nevada model works nicely. The girls get a license and to keep their license they have to keep their health tests up to date.

Word they have been going back and forth on if we should make this legal in Canada. I say go for it.

Yes, and taxed-lol
