Pretty sure I just partially tore my pec

So I just got back from the gym, and I'm pretty sure my right pec is partially torn.

I was finishing up one of my heavier sets on bench press (275 lbs), and on my second rep of that set, I felt a tear, and almost this water filling like sensation go throughout my chest. The pain/tear sensation is right where my pec meets my shoulder at the very top (where you get a fatigue feeling from doing flys). I tried to put a small load (benching just the bar) and it felt fine, but certainly was not going to risk anything more. It was a chest/tri day, so I did some light lifting for my triceps, and for the most part there was no pain.

I did a few sets of tricep pulldowns, but when I went to do skull crushers, it hurt badly, so I immediately stopped.

I know that I'm certainly going to consult with a physical therapist within the next few days, however I wanted to get some feedback from you all.

After doing some initial research, sources on the net say to apply a combination of hot and cold to the tender area. I got some IcyHot patches on the way home, so I'll use those for now. Any other things you guys recomend I should do (saying it is torn) that will get me back in the gym as soon as possible, but safely?

Thanks so much!

is there bruising? if not, you might have a bad strain. tears are usually followed by deep, dark brusing from the blood of the tear.

I did almost exactly what you described a few months ago. I will never flat bench again.

For me i had a poping sensation and luckily racked the bar without dropping it on myself. I did some research and was horrified by the stories. I had no bruising, but i could not press 5 lbs with my right hand either. The pain it caused was bad. So mine i think was luckily just minor like timtim mentions. I didn't do any pressing for 2 weeks, then did dips on the 3rd week, then slowly added back incline db presses.

I feel 100% now. But feel damn lucky.

i did this to my right a while back, and last night my left lol. It took me a few weeks till i could do any chest movements again, it was exactly as u described, u cant lift anything with it but there is no bruising. Just give it some time and rest, u will be back very soon.

Ok sounds good. It's been almost 24 hours now and there is no bruising or internal bleeding at all. Sometimes when I move my arm a certain way there will be a sharp pinch in my pec area, but that's about it. I'm hoping this will be a short and healthy recovery.

ive been icing mine, do ten minutes on, ten off for part sof the say if u have time, greatly increases revocery rate.
