Polish Hammer Squat and Deadlift vids!

Thanx Dr. Bones,

It was leg day @ the Hammer house.

Box squats - 345 - 5X5 (4th & 5th set on film)
Deadlifts - 225 - 13X2 (2nd set on film)
Zerchers - 205 - 13X2*

*PR - I have way more to go too. :)

My weak points are getting stronger and I am speeding the ROM up on the box. The box is definitely building me up. Light deadlifts on leg day for reps was a suggestion and I enjoyed it.

You need a lower box...a much lower box to squat on.

I am hitting parallel in the video. Since my hips are my weak point I decided to attack it one inch at a time. Reason for the box/bench placed where it is.

You give solid advice man. My next move was to move the box down a couple inches. That will obviously change the weight but not for long. :)

p hammer, what are your goals for training. i dont think i have ever heard them?
 
I just watched the first box squat vid. 28.8k here - so ts slow going :)

Good speed, but I don't think your doing them right for max benefit.

You need to push your butt back and prestretch the hams, and then sit for a second on the box to dissapate some of the stretch reflex so you can then flex off, going forward and up like your jumping more or less. You'll get a nice tug in the ham/glute tie area.
If your hips are weak then go light. Your shins should be at least vertical. When I do them for my jumping box squats (no weight) my shins are way past vertical, my knee angle > 90 degrees.


here is a clip of a friend doing em, he is a hammer thrower.
He has pink+green bands with 225lbs on the bar.
Notice how he explodes onto his toes.

Just watched the deadlift one, looks good,
but hard to tell. Make the clips bigger! :)

320x256 is a good size, brighter as well if you can.

I've looked at the video again...I still feel that you are not at parallel. You appear to be about 1-3" above it...

Here is a video of me doing 551.5 and it is considered HIGH for a box squat. It is 'right at' parallel... Mine need to be slightly deeper also...IMO.

This might be review, so I hope it doesn't sound condescending... "parallel" is defined by "Q-Angle." The angle from the ankle, to the back of the knee, to the hip crease (top of leg/hip). Those look really high, which I understand is redundant. I know videos can be misleading though. Looking forward to seeing the LOW sequel. :D

You have GREAT speed, but the whole point of a box squat is to completely stop momentum so you CAN'T use speed.
 
polish! you move that weight around like its just the bar. Make yourself a nice box out of 2x4s that is a little lower and you are set brother!

Thanx for the compliment man.

I will build one this weekend. Gonna be really funny when I show up to the gym with the box. I hope they will let me keep it there. :)
