I just posted this on another board Im a member of but thought I would post it over here as well. Let me see if this cut and paste shit will work. Tell me what you think guys.

Gaining weight and gaining strength in proportion to weight gain.

Just curious as to how you guys do this. I have no problem gaining weight what so ever. The thing is, I dont gain strength in proportion to the amount of weight I gain. I know its not going to be immediate but what is like when you guys gain weight? For example I went from 165 to 195 within a few months. Ok when I was 165 I benched 350 with a loose single ply poly and could bench around 330 raw. When I gained weight and went up to 195 my raw strength improved to where I could hit 330 for a double maybe a triple. Now this was when I was training a raw bench rather than Westside so I dont know how it would work with Westside. My reps with lighter weights seemed to go way up. For example at 165 I could only hit 5 or 6 reps with 275 raw, but when I weighed 195 I was hitting 275 for 12. Maybe it was all in the way I was training, I dont know. What is everyones take on this? The reason I ask is because currently I am holding at 181 and making gains in strength but Im trying to decide whether or not to go up in weight to see if I get stronger, faster. I had a back injury that put me out of things for several months so I am trying to get back to where I was before. I was planning to stay at or around 180-185 and see if I could get as strong as I was when I was 195 and then go up in weight, what do you guys think???

JM Blakely's quote: "Weight moves weight" always sticks in my mind. However I only agree with it up to a point. Nonproductive weight is just extra work for your heart to carry around. NOT a good thing.

However being heavier means increased measurements...which increases your leverage. Like most things it is a fine line. And when you are gaining weight....the subsequent strength gain does depend on your training.

I am in the process of getting back to the 275's so this is something I have been thinking about alot lately. I plan to put on weight slowly. And since I have already weighed over 275 in my life...I will be putting on a higher percentage of muscle...than if it was my first time being that heavy. Thats still no excuse for me to eat like shit. Whats an extra 10lbs if its all FAT??!

Yep...Arioch and I had this conversation a couple days ago. There's a difference between 300 pounds of mostly muscle and 300 pounds of mostly fat. Mud and concrete don't offer the same support.

Mass moves mass! Keep gaining until you feel the law of diminishing returns kick in. Do not be fooled, this is not a sport about how you look, but how much you lift.

VDizenzo , Hey just out of curioisity are you the same Dizenzo who just put up700 in the IPA World Bench Wars? If so its good to have you on the board and congrats on the 700.

Sometimes it is hard for me not to get fatter when I gain muscle because I always drink, eat pizza, burgers, giant subs etc but this is what I found works for me to minimize fat gain when gaining muscle and strength:

-At least 6 tbs of flax oil a day. Yeah I know it tastes like shit but it mixes well with whey and flax will burn off bodyfat and make it hard to get fatter. I dont know exactly how it works but it does.

-Sled dragging has been very good its kind of like cardio in a way but it builds muscle instead of burning it up like joggig does.

-Pop some glucose disposal pills a lot before eating like ALA and chronium the chronium needs to be in high doses to work like 1000 mcgs

Thanks Grimmer. I guess I don't post that much because I do not use WSB methods. I am completely overwhelmed by how many powerlifters use it. However, I am not surprised considering how much time and effort has gone into their theories.

Don't be surprised if you hear big Louie professing that the shirt should be worn more often during training in the very near future. The Metal Militia guys wear them every week, hmmmmmm.

I am thinking of trying the Metal Militia sytle soon VDizenzo. I want to compare results with it and Westside.
