Ok, I have did some research but I need some more info.

From my understanding LCD and DLP tv's require "lamp replacements" every so often, which is quite pricy. Is this true?
If so I do not want that.

I am leaning towards plasma. From what I've read, they will last approx 40,000 to 60,000 hours of viewing time. However there is no lamp replacement or any maintenance required. Is this true?
The only downside is they are more subject to "burn in".

Karmafor any advice/info.

gonelifting had a great thread on this where he asked the same questions. you should search for it and the one about box squats.

get a gawd damn regular tv

What are you looking to accomplish. If you like DLP and have the room for it buy it. You pay 200 bucks every 2 to 3 years and never have to buy another TV again. LCD's last longer than plasma's but the viewing angle sucks. Plasma's are good but they start to get crappy picture after 5 years. What brands are you looking at. I have worked with electronics for about 4 years for a mayjor electronics company so let me know

karma for everybody excpet frisky.

mrshll, Brand isn't real important as long as it's reliable. I have a rear projection Sony right now and have had no problems with it. So Sony would def be a consideration. I also like Samsung's products.

I wasn't aware plasma's fade after 5 years or so. Is there anyway to service them after 5 years?

LCD's are a tad pricy right now...I'd prob wait a while if I decided to get on of those.

I am trying to accomplish a bedroom tv that can be wall mounted or is no more than 16" deep. I will be watching digital tv, dvd, and possibly a video gaming console. I want something 37" or greater and under $1500.

also depends on how much cash you want to spend

theres "better" and theres "better for the $"

personally i went dlp, because i scored a 53 inch for about 25% less than the nearest priced plasmas or lcds, which were only 42 inch models

lamp replacements dont concern me, since imo, as a young guy, if you watch enough tv to need to replace the lamps, theres so much wrong with your life that being billed for replacement lamps isnt going to make much difference to your misery.

so far, i have watched all of 3 movies on it lol ;)

Syntax - (a cheap, off brand) is it reliable or a piece of crap?

Good luck finding anything 16" deep and paying less that 1500. IF you want shit go to Costco and buy something if you want quality look at Pannosonic plasmas which are cheep right now becuase they are #1 so they can. LCD's is Sharp or Samsung. The best TV's to buy in my opinion are Samsung or Panosonic. Sony was great a long time ago but if you look at consumer reports they are a dying breed. Don't stay loyal and buy something that sucks. Check out these models or Samsung HPS5073 HPS5053 for LCD LNS3251D 4051D. If you can find an LNR they are good to they come with a QAM tuner to get you free digital and some HI def with no cable box. Let me know what you decide if you go samsung maybe I can tell you where to go for a good price same with Pannosonic.
