Personal ? about "that time of the month"

I was just wondering if anyone ever misses their cycle when training really hard or dieting. I will go for months without a period. Does this happen to most women when they get down in b/f%?

Yup. I agree with WarLobo. It happens all the time except to me!

Seriously, it is not uncommon for a women with low bodyfat or other hormonally related problems to experience a lack of menstration.

A lot of "scientific" things you might find say things like a woman will stop menustrating if she gets below 12% body fat. This is not a hard and fast rule, because all women are different. There is more to this equation than just bodyfat %. Overly restrictive diets and/or excessive exercise will put the body in stress mode, which can cause periods to stop. (The same activities can cause fat loss to stop as well, but that's a whole 'nother subject.)

Using myself as an example :D ... When I went on crash diets and exercise binges, my period would stop. Back then, my bf was probably in the 15-17 range, nowhere near the magic 12% threshold.

Fast forward 2 decades... Three years ago my bf was 23%. A year later it was 14%, then 12% the following year, and now stabilized @10%. Aunt Flow hasn't missed a single visit. No plans to test any lower limits though.

I train hard, but the difference has been allowing for sufficient recovery along with a good diet having enough calories and nutrients. Because my fat loss has been so gradual this time, I think my body hardly even realized it.

i miss my periods allllllll the time for every little thing.....any kind of mental or physical stress and its gone for months! i havent had it in about 3 so far.

It happens alot when you're body fat is dropping -- mine stopped 1 month before my first competition - at about 11%. Then picked up again 2 months later. Happened again for the second comp. It also stopped for 4 months when I first went away to college - obviously stress-releated. It came back over Xmas break and then stopped again until summer.

Some girls also experience interruption while on AS, eg winny.

Its just not good if it stays stopped for a long time. To kick it back in if you happened to have stopped taking birth control, is to go back on so that your system can be "regulated".

I honestly don't know why some of you worry so much about you're periods. Everyone complains when they have them, then they complain when they don't.

There is no evidence that infertility arises from not have a period for some time.

If you're eating properly and lifting heavy, then bone density isn't an issue either, especially if you're taking test.

I've know a couple of women BBs who haven't had their period for years. Bone density is above normal.

The most important variable in maintaining your period is adequate food intake. You can be 25% body fat, have an eating disorder and not have a period.

Last, remember, no period does NOT equal no ovulation. If you are really concerned, then stay on the pill.

Oh spat...........you have NO IDEA how glad I am to hear you say that. I am the EXACT same way. I've been to half a dozen different gyn trying to figure out what's "wrong" and no one EVER has a clue. You're the 1st person I have come across that has had a similar experience to mine...well..except I never ran track so that's not an issue w/me.

I'm hearing you W6. Hell, I've yet to have a period and you don't ever hear me saying I want one

I personally think all men should have to experience a period and wear spike heels and nylons for one week per year, just to get a better appreciation of what its like to be female.....;)

Now, there's a picture! :lmao:

Ms Wilson says I go through the mental aspects of a period at least twice a month. I bleed and cramp only if she punches me for being a bitch however :)
