Percent of calories from protein

What percentage of your daily caloric intake should be protein-based in order to build more muscle? I currently weigh 240 pounds and I get at least 1 gram of protein per pound of my body weight each day (usually a bit more), but out of 3000 calories per day that is only around 35% of my daily caloric total. Is this a problem?
 
The only way it would be a problem if you where taking in your high protien from foods with a higher fat %.

1 Gram of Protien = 4 cals
1 Gram of Carbs = 4 Cals
1 Gram of fat = 9 Cals.
 
Im 208 lbs and I somtimes dont even get 200! Around 180 Is an average for me but when I dont be lazy I will usally get about 220 or so. Each meal I try 30ps of protein or more then it just depends on how many hours I am awake for. I try to ahve a meal every 2 hours

The foods I eat are cottage cheese, eggs, fish (tuna and salmon mostly), pasta, oatmeal, numerous fruits and vegetables, and of course protein bars and protein shakes. I think that is a pretty solid selection of meals, but I have read some articles that say you want to get 50-55% of your calories from protein if you want to build muscle. I have also read several places that you should get 2 grams of protein per pound of body weight, and for me that would be 480 grams per day. Sorry, but that isn't going to happen...

You say your 240, how tall are you? And do you have a rough estimate of fat %?

I’m 6’0 185-190lbs and can take in 250-300 daily no problem while doing 6 days a week lifting. I just crave that much food when on that schedule. If I wasn’t working out that much I couldn’t eat like that. I could imagine it’s tuff to take in 2gm’s per lbs at your weight. That seems kind of high also, I’m sure if you are anywhere between 250-350 and heavy lifting you would pull some gains.

You have a good selection of foods for sure, but if you want to gain muscle you will have to eat more of it, a lot more.

If you're bulking then 1g/lb is enough, carbs are protein sparing. If you're dieting then 1.5g/lb is useful. If you're juicing then you might need more protein and you can go higher with total Calories too.
