PAIN ~ Should I Rest My Legs?

2Shy

New member
I've been struggling with sciatica problems for at least a month, possibly 6 weeks. It came on after a severe case of bronchitis which required me to sit upright in a chair to sleep (and just about everything else). I think it occurred due to compression.

Right now, I'm laid off with no insurance, so I've been suffering through this.

The pain's in my left lower back through the hip and down the back of my thigh and also going up and around the quad (but not all the time with the quad problem). Like all such problems, it hurts most when I shift position from sitting to standing, that sort of thing.

It NEVER bothers me when squatting, deadlifting, GMs, anything lower body.

But it's not getting better. Since the hips and lower back are involved in the above movements, I'm beginning to think that I should back off of doing them for awhile. Maybe they're prolonging my recovery even though I feel no pain while doing them.

The ladies on the Womens Board feel I should see a doctor (I just cannot do so) and also suggested a few stretches, which I've been doing to no avail.

I know, I know. I should see a doctor or a chiropractor, but I simply can't afford it right now. House payments and food in the kid's mouth are more important.

So, should I keep on keeping on or lay off for awhile? Thanks!

I had the same problem, same symptoms anyway. My doctor told me that a strained ham was putting pressure on the sciatic nerve, which was causing the pain.

I too was able to squat, dead, no problem. But simple things like walking the wrong way were very painful.

So here's how I handled it. I was fortunate enough to be insured and got some vicodin, which was a lot of help. However, what really did it was daily stretches on that ham. That's the only thing that will fix it and it is a time-consuming process. It was a few months before it healed, however it did finally heal.
