Overhead Squats

Gladiola

New member
I can not believe how hard those were!

I'm comfortable squatting Olympic style (real low), but overhead, I was having my heels come up, leaning too far forward, etc. Damn!

My coach said basically, "Don't lean so far forward." He gave me the impression that I didn't really have a problem - this difficulty initially is totally normal & I'll get it in time. I was honestly surprised how difficult it was to try to do the same movement with just my arms in a different position.

Anyone else's experiences?

I had trouble with letting the bar sway back on the descent. i thought the idea was to keep it in the same position. i would always lean forward because of this. also the tightness in my pecs caused a lot of trouble

yes i had trouble with my heels as well. I found the more flexabitlity i had the easier it was

Try a wider stance if you lack flexibility in the shoulders and ankles. I normally jump out wider when snatching to overhead squat

Stretch a bar (snatch grip, arms locked) behind your head as far as you can for 10 seconds a couple times. Shoulder flexability is the biggest obstacle you have to overcome.

LOL @ Gladiola. Remember my post on women's board? I feel these ENTIRELY in my abs. I use them as ab work on squat day.

..oh, and keeping the bar in line with the hips, and rotating the elbows out helps control bar position while descending.
