OU Football Bench Press...

Saw this in today's Sunday Daily Oklahoman. It's on there website too: http://www.newsok.com/cgi-bin/show_article?ID=899178&pic=none&TP=getsooners

Bench press -- defensive line: Kory Klein, 455 pounds, Tommie Harris and Jimmy Wilkerson, 440; linebacker: Lehman, 415; defensive back:
Michael Thompson and Andre Woolfolk, 315; offensive line: Wes Sims, 455; tight end: Smith, 380; wide receiver: John Connor, 380; running back: Larry Pinson and Renaldo Works, 430; quarterback: Paul Thompson, 305.

Those are the top benchers for each position.

It goes on to say there 40 times as well.

40-yard dash -- defensive line: Jonathan Jackson, 4.50 seconds; linebacker: Teddy
Lehman, 4.47; defensive back: Eric Bassey and Antonio
Perkins, 4.32; offensive line: Jammal Brown, 4.93; tight end: Leanar Nixon, 4.52; wide receiver: Will Peoples, 4.40; running back: Griffin, 4.43; quarterbacks: Jason White, 4.63.

The running back is very impressive:

Griffin (5- foot-7, 190 pounds) ranked first among OU's running backs in three categories, including the 40-yard dash (4.43 seconds), vertical jump (37.5 inches) and broad jump (10 feet, 2 inches). He can also bench 405 pounds.

I just realized I might should have posted that in the "Chat" section. So, from a training aspect how are these athletes able to put on so much muscle and move so fast?

Good post. Being a student at OU, I'm familiar with all those guys. I graduated from Tuttle in 98 while J. White graduated in 99. Needless to say I grew up playing baseball and basketball with him and spent some time with him in the weight room. I dunno if he didn't bench or they have some special way of doing it, but White was benching over 315 in HS. I'm thinking Thompson must bench 405 instead of the 305 printed. No way in hell Mike T and Woolfolk are benching more than the QB's.

I am also a student at OU. From what I hear they have a great strength training program for the football players. Does anyone know how the wrestling team trains in the offseason?

I'm a sophomore at OU. I guess not having to work out at the Huston Huffman makes all the difference for the football players...

There isn't a damn squat rack a the Huffman.

ConstantChange: You're probably right about Paul Thompson benching 405. I had no idea Michael Thompson was that strong. He ways almost 200 though. White benching over 315 in high school is pretty impressive, the only guys that got close to that from my high school were lineman (Edmond).

I have no idea how the wrestling team trains, but I do know someone that wrestles there. I have to ask him in a couple weeks after school starts back up.
