Has anyone stopped and successfully gone right back to a semi normal or normal cycle?

Yes, No.

What have been your experience?

I was on BCP for about 15-16 years - since I was 15 years old. I have no clue what my "normal cycle" was..... I don't remember. :(

But, I went off BCP in Sept 2004. I immediately went back to 28-32 day cycles.

The first month I ovulated about Day 17. I had a shorter Luteal Phase, about 10-11 days. My period the first month was heavy, very crampy. Very bloated.

Each month after that improved, period-wise. Every month it got lighter and shorter, less crampy, less bloat. This last month my period was 3 days blood, 2 days light light spotting. No cramps, very small amt of bloat.

I do find I get a little moody the week before my period. I have a shorter fuse, grow a little more impatient (and I am already VERY impatient) and get sad feelings. It is NOT hard to deal with, I just have to realize it is happening and take a deep breath.

I can go into MUCH more detail if you'd like.... :) You know, cervical mucous, etc .... :worried:

I started charting my cycles the day I stopped BCP. I charted my cervical mucous, daily mornign temp, etc. I did this to help with conception though :)

I took BCP for quite a long time & am now no longer on them..... I'm regular like clockwork -- every 26-28 days..... But I don't remember if I was regular right away after stopping or not....

Ouuu great stuff, I was hoping you'd see this thread and answer.

Hmm first week I was fine, week 2/3 I was an emotional wreck and if possible more moody than usual, past few days I was starting to come to terms with the mental rollercoaster and BAM first period - and it's from HELL thankyouverymuch.

LOL

Cervical mucous - I laughed out loud at that.

Did you also notice the HUGE difference between being on and off the pill?

This Hormonal nightmare just BITES!

LOL Shadow ..... sorry ...... :qt: I thought you loved me - you don't want to know about all my inner workings?

Hmmm, did I notice a big difference on and off the pill.

I feel good not having any hormones in me. I feel good not having things "regulated" for me - and I understand my body totally now. For that reason alone, I love being off.

Mood-wise, on the pill I NEVER had PMS. My moods never changed due to my cycle. I am a little unhappy about the mood change while off the pill. Since i am charting, I can see patterns and recognized the pattern the 2-3 month off BCP. Now that I know the pattern, I can anticipate it coming or recoignize it when it is happening. That helps a lot.

I forgot to mention the EXTREME sore breasts the first month off. OMG, I was in intense pain for about 4-5 days. They sore SO heavy and SO sore. This has also subsided. They are still sore, simply due to progesterone levels, but manageable.

I actually find I get LESS period-related bloat now than when I was on BCP. I realize now that BCP made me retain quite a bit of water, esp around my period.

But, I do get cravings now. While on BCP, I never got cravings around my period - now I do - chocolate and ice cream mostly. But I have a serious sweet tooth anyway. :)

I also notice a difference in my endurance in the couple days before my period leading into the first day or two of my period.....I get winded easily and dizzy. This usually only happens when working out and when exerting myself. Again, sometime I noticed and am now able to anticipate.

I noticed NO difference in sex drive. It has been the same on BCP and off.

If I were you, I would keep a daily log of EVERYTHING. This is invaluable. Like I said, I chart monthly and it has helped me see patterns. I can foresee what I might feel like in the next few days and adjust my activity or my expectations of how I will feel. It also helps me feel less "crazy" about moods and body twinges :)

Hope this helps - let me know if I can aswer any more Qs.
