Online Dating..... are they all liars???

I was at the pool today and I (along with everyone else at the pool) happened to over hear a conversation of two guys, I'd say mid 30's average looking and halfway educated, (maybe) anywho... they were talking about their fabricated profiles on some dating site they both visit. One of them said the only thing he lied about was how much money he made because the "chics won't look at a guy that makes under 100K". The other went on to agree and say he lied about ever being married, his salary, the type of music he likes and that he does not smoke, which he was at the pool puffing away and drinking budlight. So, is this common practice? It's a bummer people feel so much pressure to compete (even on a friggin website) that they feel they have to lie?
