on CKD diet - fatty foods low in sodium ??

So i started doing a CKD diet - eating fatty foods is easy - hamburgers .. bacon ..sausage ... but i notice that these things are LOADED with sodium

what kind of foods can you eat that might be lower in saturated fat but have good fat - or does saturated fat not matter in the ckd diet....

so basically 2 questions ...

what kind of fatty foods are really good to eat on a CKD that might be lower in sodium and saturated fat (if that matters)

also on CKD - is it ok to eat things like burgers and sausage to get the fats i need... like for lunch i had a burger with a slice of cheese and 2 pieces of bacon ....

i am taking 2 teaspoonfuls of Flax See oil as well - to get my EFA's .. should i bump that up to 4 a day ?

The sodium can't really cause any bad water retention due to the fact that you have no carbs to hold the water. That's why most people are thirsty all the time on CKD.

The saturated fat is stored as cholesterol only in response to insulin being raised. If there are no carbs to cause the insulin spike, then you should be ok. My cholesterol test were actually better on CKD.

But, you can always get your fat from nuts and flax or olive oil (olive is cheaper and tastes better to me).

I keep my fat g/protien g ratios between 60/40 and 50/50.
And for me, it's just easier to get the necessary fat and calories with a little fat from sausage and maybe some pepperoni added in.
(not to mention the heavy whipping cream in my coffee!)

Toozee, is it just the absense of insulin that keeps the sat. fat from being stored, or is it more the idea that most people are hypocaloric and hence sat. fats are more likely to be oxidized for energy?

Would we still have little concern about sat. fat in a hypercaloric state? I would tend to think that action of Acylation Stimulating Protein (and things like lipoprotein lipase/other lipases) could prove to be a detrimental storage mechanism in a hypercaloric state. Not disputing you, just looking for more info on it all.

Is there something going on hormonally that is mroe pertinent than the insulin/glucagon situation?

I have been using a lower sodium approach (~2 grams/day) on ckd for a couple of weeks now and have felt a lot better (less dehydrated).

Here is some info I posted first at bbing.com on how I reduce my sodium intake on keto...hope it helps

Try...
Low sodium tuna
Frozen Veggies or no salt added canned veggies
Nuts that don't have any salt.
Make your own salad dressings, dips(these are simple)
Use oils/ no salt butter/ coconut milk/coconut butter
Buy things like lean ground turkey or other meats that are low in sodium ( a lot of fresh raw meats work well here)
Stay away from most canned goods
Eating whole eggs is not that high in sodium
Sour cream and a few dairy products are relatively low in sodium
If you use a lot of bacon/sausage/stuff from that area of the grocery store, you might just have to cut it out for a while unless you can find low sodium varieties at health food stores

As RippedUp mentioned, you should be drinking at least 1.5 gallons water a day anyhow on ckd, so with a little ingenuity, it should be no problem to reduce sodium intake to a point where you can easily clear it from your system without harmful consequences.

Also, remember to get plenty of potassium in your diet, etc etc.
