NYTimes Eating Disorder story.

:(

I always feel so helpless when I read stories like that. Frustrated and depressed. Then angry. And just plain sad.

Oooohhh, darn. :(

I haven't read it, but I can imagine how disturbing I would find the general mind-set. I don't have a problem with the concept of restricting your calories (or cycling them) for good health, but the obsession with being skinny is too alien to me. I don't have a problem with supportive sites for people with eating disorders, but I DO have a problem with "how to" sites. Mind you, I've seen some pretty disturbing eating/dieting problems on the bodybuilding boards some times..........Let's see, DNP, T3, ingestion or injection of black market drugs, keto diets, to name a few!

It's a good article, it mentions the infamous thin forum.

BTW I used to hang out over there - folks from elite coming over there spreading "da word" about lifting got me out of my dieting-as-cure-for-bingeing obsession and into bbing-lifting-as-cure-for-bad-body-image and over here instead. I still post there in their working out forum (different username) trying to get folks into lifting, wearing the correct footwear for running etc.

That place has helped some people stop their EDs too - it has a good recovery forum. I am in 2 minds about that kind of site, but I don't think the thin board in particular promotes EDs AT ALL. It's full of advice about the dangers of throwing up, not eating etc. No-one there says "this is desirable, do this"...

Anyway, best not to start another thread on this subject.
