you cant compare the average yearly income, when you dont know what the prices are like or the taxes, or price of gas, or price of living...it's a lot cheaper in Saudi than it is in North America

Not what I was implying at all. Just that it is an arrangement, not necessarily a "great" relationship. Both the Saudi Royal Family and the US Gov't turn the other cheek and look away at the things they both dislike about each other. It's simply a business arrangement, which both benefit from.

Cost of living in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia does not appear to be too cheap, relative to other average cities (i.e. not Tokyo, London, NYC, etc). Same ballpark as Dallas, Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Charlotte, Houston, etc.

I lived in Saudia Arabia as well. Now, my uncle and some of my family live there. They all have internet access and plasma TVs and what not....are you serious about what you're saying bro??

I've never been, but I have several family members (females included) who have traveled to Saudia Arabia and had nothing but good things to say about it.

Not always exclusive to the Western world mate, but they did fight & die to defend ideals that I strongly believe in, causes I described previously in this thread (So that Western Europeans / Commonwealth nations could continue to enjoy them).

I was going to say that myself... I don't have any of those things. Never owned a game console, and never owned a plasma TV. I don't want any. Especially the plasma TV. Why anyone would want a TV that has an inferior picture in my opinion, and uses 4x the power of of a tube set, and belches out more heat than your furnace, is beyond me. I'm a man; not a soccer mom, so I don't need an SUV; I have trucks. I don't have time to play video games, because if I'm not working, or working out, I'm riding motorcycles or playing with other toys... On the other hand, some of the lowest-income households I know of, have all 3 of those things, and the latest models of each.

Could it be, that the plasma TV, the SUV, and the X Box are status symbols that might not be as important to other cultures in other countries? I bet if you go to American-influenced households in Saudi Arabia or Costa Rica, you will find a plasma TV, an X box, and an SUV... (Diesel of course).

Not a big fan of SA but are you serious? That's one of the richest countries in the world. Agree with your comment about the treatment of women though.
