I HAVE A BF% QUESTION.
WHAT IS A SAFE % TO LOSE PER WEEK?

I AM 5'5" 128LBS 19% BF. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS GOOD OR BAD. I RECENTLY LOST 7LBS IN THE LAST 6 WEEKS ABOUT 1LB PER WEEK. I HAVE A TANITA SCALE THAT CALCULATE THE BF%.
I KNOW IT IS NOT 100% ACCURATE BUT I DO IT THE SAME TIME
OF THE DAY EVERY DAY TO GET AN IDEA OF WHAT I AM LOOSING.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT BF% I WAS AT WHEN I STARTED 6 WEEKS AGO I JUST BOUGHT THE SCALE LAST WEEK AND SINCE THEN I WENT FROM 20.9% TO 19%.

I DID SOME LOOKING AROUND AND GET ALL KINDS OF INFO BUT EVERYTHING CONTRADICTS ITSELF. I AM CONFUSED. LOL.

ANY INPUT WOULD HELP.

GEEZ I KNOW MY BF% IS HIGH BUT I DIDN'T THINK THAT I WOULD SCARE EVERYONE AWAY. LOL.

ANY COMMENTS FROM ANYONE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

First, don't type in CAPS, it is annoying...

I don't now if you can analyse it %bf per week, lbs per week is better. At 1 lb per week that is good, 1 1/2 is the "best average". But if you want it in %bf, calculate, based on your %bf the amount of fat you have and then if you loose 1 1/2 lbs a week, nopefully 1lb of that is fat, calculate the % you would loose.

Hope it helpls a little.

However the best is to throw away the scales and do measurements...

okay I did some math for you and this is how it currently breaks down:

Before @ 135lbs and 21% you had 28.35 lbs of fat

Now @ 128 and 19% you have 24.32 lbs of fat - a loss of 4lbs of jiggly stuff. Pretty Good

If you loose 1 1/2 lbs a week, where 1 lb is just fat

@ 126 and say 23 lbs fat you would be 18.25 %

@ 124 1/2 and at 22 lbs fat you would be 17.7 %

@ 122 and 21 lbs fat you would be 17.2 %

@ 120 1/2 and 20 lbs fat you would be 16.6 %

@ 119 and 19 lbs fat you would be 15.9 %

Does this make sense ? Does to me but something in the numbers just doesn't sit right with me....

Hmmmmm. I'll have to think on it.

after the 1st week or 2 of water weight loss which can be a lot, a good rule of thumb is 2lbs per week, anything more than that and you could be at risk of losing muscle..the slower you go the better..i saw an extreme case once, my buddy was dieting for a show, he lost 1 lb per week for 24 weeks, mainly becauses hes a huge guy and gets paranoid the second he loses one pound, he likes to be big, any way he lost NO MUSCLE and lost 24 lbs, his arms were almost 21 inches before the diet and were still almost 21 inches after he lost 24lbs.

But 2lbs per week is ok, anything over that is risking it. Espeically at your low bodyweight.

Thats what I was worried about. Losing muscle. I am working too hard to get it to turn around and lose it. I will keep taking it slow if my progress continues.

Yes I am female. I am really not trying to get down too low I wasn't sure if 19% was good or bad. I see so much variety in charts that I wasn't sure. I am trying to lean up for the beach. Vacation is right around the corner. I would like to get a couple of % lower than I am now. I don't have a problem in my thighs its more around my hips that I am dissgusted.
