Not being able to tan while on accutane.

I'vd done a search and have read that it is really hard to get a tan while on accutane. Something to do with the accutane making your body shed the skin so fast that when you get a tan, or try to get a tan that the newly tanned skin gets replaced before it can start to build up some color. Have any of you that have used accutane have this problem? Is there anything you can do about it? How long after you stopped the use of accutane can you start to tan again?

Actually I heard you shouldnt tan or expose to sun at all while on Accutane.
Your skin becomes alot more sensitive to harmfull sunlight.

Cauck4, I think I've heard something along those lines aswell. But I THINK I've heard it was more important to keep from exposing your eyes from the sun, as they will be more sensitive. But Im not sure. I may be thinking of oxsoralen. So everybody plase take that with a grain of salt. I have talked to people who have tried to tan while on accutane, and they said the only negative side effectic they got was not being able to tan.

bro, B5 works just as good IMO except you don't get nose bleeds and cracked chapped lipps and a stressed liver. accutane is fucked up and should be used as a last measure.

i was on accutane as a teenager and i had every extreme possible side effect. the stuff really f****d me up. Especially in the sun. I'm not talkin bout just normal sunburn. I was severely burned and would get sick from being out in it. That summer I was never able to tan. Even with sunscreen i would fry and get sick. maybe i was just an extreme case though. but that was my experience. i would never willingly take that stuff again.

I'm with Jevon here. I did accutane when I was an early teen as well. Out of all the sides, the sensitivity to the sun was by far the worst. The first time I tried to get a tan was when I fell asleep next to a swimming pool. I was only out for like 30 minutes when I woke up with fucking BLISTERS on my face and arms from where the sun had cooked me. Seriously, accutane will make you hate the sun so much that you'll think you're a vampire. I dunno how many other people have had this but it's the worst thing I ran across. The bitch of it is... I used to tan really easily before I took accutane. Now, years later, I still can't stay out in the sun for any amount of time without getting burnt and/or sick :(

HOLY TAP DANCING CHRIST!! Those sound like some really bad side effects. Thanks for postin your responses guys. Has anyone else experianced this severe of side effects from exposure to the sun while on accutane? I've had a really bad sunburn that resulted in blisters all over the top of my back. I really dont want to go through something like that again. And whats worse is once the blisters healed they left a shit load of freckles, that I just dont dig too much. Makes me wonder though. With all the shit the pros take year round, the ones that are proned to acne probably take accutane year round also, or at least for a while during the heavier parts of there drug use. I wonder how they deal with the sensitivity to sun exposure. I wonder since doctors prescribe oxsoralen to fair skinned patients going on tropical vacations to keep them from burning so easily, if it would be beneficial to take oxsoralen while on accutane? It might help you be less sensitive to the sun. The only thing is, your not suppost to take oxsoralen more than 14 days at a time, followed by 14 days off. Any thoughts on this idea?

I'm curious too. Just started taking accutane as a last resort.

yes, its absolutely true, you cant tan on accutane, moreover its not recomended to be exposed to much of sun or tanning beds for that matter, accutane dryes up your skin, radiation from the sun/tanning beds will agravate it much much worse

another consirn is the fact tha accutane is a derivative of Vit-A (high concentration), sun light increases vit-A synthesis and coupled with intake of accutane vit-A levels can rise and cause greater toxicity
