I think there isn't a lot known about nolva & its use in women. I actually asked my ob/gyn about it when I started competing. As far as he knew they had only done research with it on post-menapausal breast cancer patients. It doesn't turn off your estrogen but rather fakes out the estrogen receptors and interrupts the estrogen process, thus supposedly interrupting the whole estrogen pattern fat depositing thing. I've heard of one girl who thinks she developed endomitriosis from using it, although I haven't seen much in the way of actual studies - like my doc said -there just isn't much research on it. Also note that most of the anti-e's you hear guys using dont' block natural estrogen production but rather the conversion of various AAS to estrogen to keep gyno & other excess-estrogen related sides from happening.
I've also heard about estrogen rebound when you come off it. Although when you are talking about coming off everything and completing a competition, there are lots of things going on in your body that are rebounding as they try to readjust to "normal" existence after the tight dirt, stress, water depletion, etc. of competition.
The recommendation is to not run nolva longer than 4-6 weeks, maybe 4 weeks preferred. No reason to go over 1 pill (20 or 25 mg if I recall), that pill split in half for AM & PM across the course of the day. Then probably taper off the dose for a few days at a time (e.g. 1/2 the dose for a few days, then 1/2 again for another few) to help reduce any rebound effect. Its not a well-explored drug for pre-menopausal women to use. It appears to work better at lower bodyfat as well - otherwise you would see a lot of very lean post-menopausal breast cancer patients. (Which you don't.)
