I really love to bake brownies. I want to use protein powders but most denature at baking temperatures.

Whey, for instance, should never exceed 250 degrees.

Does anyone know which protein powders are okay to cook with (meaning; they will retain all the health benefits of protein)?

Casein, soy, egg, milk, WHAT????

What do you think happens to protein after you eat it? It is broken down into its specific amino acids. IT IS DENATURED. Don't worry about baking with any of them. You're not loosing anything.

Cook them all...I do it all the time, even put it in boiling oatmeal...don't see a problem at all...enjoy

Thanks guys!

But Mighty P:

The guy from the proteinfactory.com said not to cook the whey powder in temps over 200 because it will denature and then become INSOLUBLE.

Since I'm a vegetarian, I need to be sure what I think is good, digestible protein REALLY IS.

I disagree dont bake with it. why chance it? Just bake and have a vanilla shake w/ your brownies if you must have them (it will be like a glass of milk).

the protien is not destoyed that a bunch of BS.

Some of the immuno boosting enzymes ect.. may be destroyed (why they don't reccomend heating) but the protein is not destroyed.

ITs like saying cooking veggies makes them useless, some of the nurtrients are lost but not enough to merit not cooking them.

Besides since when can protein be destroyed what happens to it. its got to have a calorie value still are you saying it becomes a carb you saying it becomes a fat, hmm why not put all our pasta in a freezer that turns it to protein I hear.

Eating meat must be worthless since I nvr eat it raw whats the point.

Unless your burning it and changing it into char your not going to alter it chemical properties it will remain protein.

What they mean by 'becomes insoluble' is that it will no longer dissolve in aqueous solutions (such as milk or water). Same thing happens to an egg when you boil it. To say that the protein in an egg is lost due to cooking is as silly as worrying about your whey protein denaturing. Your body will still digest it just fine, but it will take a bit longer, so baked whey products may be less effective post workout than a shake. Other than that, happy brownie eating!

this store I go to sells protein muffins they use mostly soy and a little milk protein I would not suggest eating a lot of soy protein
