No more OL - BREAKING the building!

Well, got a call from my teammate on Wed while in Chicago on a business trip. We have "BROKEN the warehouse" where we train.

My coach rents space in this warehouse & owns the platforms, barbells & Olympic Lifting equipment. The owner of the building had a buyer looking at it & stress fractures were discovered in the basement. Hmm, from repeatedly dropping heavy barbells, perhaps?! So no more dropping weight. You can't really train properly in OL WITHOUT sometimes dropping the weights.

Coach is currently looking into another space. Anyone else have troubles? If we were training in a garage, we'd probably have been fine.

why dont you build a platform. it's easy. all you need is some wood and rubber matting.

i routinely drop 700+ lbs onto my basement floor. no problems.

We have platforms. Plywood with rubber. My coach even builds them & has sold some. We always lift on the platforms - never drop weights directly onto the concrete floors. But I suppose it was still enough stress, since we aren't in the basement - but the 1st floor & there's a basement beneath us.
