Newbie to lifting...questions!

I'm totally new to this, so bear with me.
I've spent a good couple months reserching things.
I've also scanned this board from time to time. Not to blow your horn, but I think you are the most qualfied group to answer these questions properly and correctly.

1. I'd really like to work out at home, but have *very* limites space. I can run for cardio, so what is a decent set up (i.e power rack, etc) for limited space, that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?
2. What is best for newbies.....3x or 5x a week? I suspect 5x may be overtraining....

Whoa, Size Surge isn't for everyone.

For starters, are you looking to add mass or lose weight?

Secondly i would join a gym even if you never touched a weight in your life. They usually will give you a trainer for free just to show you the ropes which is a big help. Not only that but you can get a 3 month membership usually which costs alot less then home workout equipment which usually isn't worth the money anyway.

Just let me know what you are planning to do...gain or lose...

Thanks to both of you for your prompt replies.
Maybe I will join a gym, since I am so new to this.
For now I want to gain. I'm a tad overweight, but not obscenely so (i'm 5' 8", 27 y/o and 163lbs)

So I mainly want to gain.,..

what is "size surge" the other dude listed?
