newbie question on bulking/cutting

I have been training for a month now. Started at 160 lbs with a 13 percent bodyfat. Now I'm up to 178 with 17 percent bodyfat. My question is how long should I bulk up before I start to cut if in the end I want to weigh about 195 in a ripped state?

Thanks for any advice on this.

Wow, 18 pounds in one month! What are you eating, mate? But your LBM has only gone up 8 1/2 pounds, which means the other 9 1/2 pounds must be fat or water retention, not such a good ratio I would say. If I was you I'd start cutting now, but hey that's just a personal choice. Also, it is not so much what you are doing now, but how you are doing it. If you are bulking then what is your training like? Send some more info.

I'm with him....send more info.....and as far as cutting up, that's totally up to you....you could get your weight up to 300 and then start cutting if you wanted to.....it's all up to you homey....have fun, and be patient!!!

hey thanks for your interest. well I have been following a program of 4 days of working out as follows

mon. chest db flys 2 light sets for warmup and then a set of between 8-12 till complete failure followed by 2 sets of db incline bench and a set of dips then one dropset for my triceps with cable

wen. back 1 set pulldowns for lats 1 set bendover rows and 1 set shrugs followed by standing dumbelll curls 1 set for my biceps up to 25 pounds from 20 in one week.

thur. quads do 1 set of leg ext. and one set of leg presses and hams I do 1 set of leg curls

sat. shoulders I do 1 set delt raises and then 1 set of presses and then I do a dropset for my calves

of course all these sets are done to failure and I do a warmup set for each excercise.

As far as eating I'm a hardgainer myself but I have been eating 6 or 7 times a day and eating at least 200 grams of protein a day half from food half from powder seems to work and I eat a lot of carbs too. also taking creatine once after every workout with juice.

well bro....I don't like your workout routine for one reason.....you doing the same thing every time you work that group....you need to change you work out every time you go into the gym....I don't mean for you to change the days you work out.....just don't keep doing the same excercises for each muscle groupl when you work them. Variety stimulates you muscles in different ways so that your body doesn't get used to doing one thing all the time.....you body only gets as strong as it needs to be....so if you keep doing the same thing it won't get any stronger.....try changing the excercises up a little and then you'll be good to go.

Thanks Bro

Hey bro, I will sure try to vary it up. My gym also has a couple of machines where you put free weights on the back and then do chest presses you don't need a spotter as the weight is behind you as you push the bar. Is this any good compared to bb bench press? Any way this heat wave makes it harder than hell to eat my 6 meals, just wait till winter :D

I'm not sure exactly what the machine is from your description but it sounds close enough to bb bench....I have a machine at my gym that is just like bb bench only the handles on it are split so you actually go down a little further then regular bench, which is good because it brings more of you chest into the lift. As far as eating six meals a day goes....don't eat regular size meals....instead eat six small meals. I eat 6-8 meals a day but I never get full.
