Newbie here! 50lbs or Bust!

Hi everyone!

I am new to this website and thread but I have been reading and have found that you guys are VERY informative!
Okay, so here is my situation..... I am 5'2 and currently right at 190lbs. I gained 40lbs in about 8 months just from being lazy and eating like a pig I guess you could say. I have always had a big butt and thighs, but i usually stayed right around 145-155, which I was not satisfied with either. I have recently started taking Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts classes and I must say that they are KICKING MY ASS! It is EXTREMELY intense training and I have been sore every day for almost 2 weeks! We do intense cardio and a good bit of Plyometrics. I am also about to start weight training as well. So, my goal is to lose 50lbs. I would like to weigh around 135 but I want to be solid muscle in the end. I am willing to do whatever it takes. I am prescribed Adderall b/c I have ADHD, so that is all the appetite suppresant that I think I need. My diet pretty much consists of grilled chicken, grilled fish, lots of spinach greens, a subway sandwhich here and there and that's about it. I need to get on a regular diet rutine because I really haven't been eating but about twice a day, which I know is suicide. I am planning to start taking Winstrol injections in about a week. Can anyone offer me any advice on what I should be doing??? Thanks so much and I look forward to your help!

Hi! Welcome to EF!! Congrats on starting a new journey! I think the jiu jitsu/ martial arts thing is really cool. I"m totally in to this new show on Oxygen- Fight Girls. Have you seen it? It's awesome and very motivating.

Check out the stickies and read other people's logs to get an idea of what your diet should look like. There's a big difference between just saying you eat some clean foods and actually having each meal planned out with a method to it. Shoot for five or six small meals throughout the day.

I really would advise you not to start the Winstrol. I'm not anti-AAS, but it would really be silly for you to start playing around with your hormones at this point; there's really just NO need to. You will be amazed at what transformation you can make with just a change in your diet and activity level. Also, you need to be aware of possible side effects of steroid use, especially on the female body. Have you read up and researched on this? If not, PLEASE do before making such a big decision.

Hi badgergrl!

Thanks so much for your response! Yeah, Jiu Jitsu is AWESOME! And I'm really lucky b/c my professor is a 2 time World Champ.....

I have researched Winstrol for several years now and I acctually started taking the pills once before. I hear so many different stories from so many different people that I just don't know what to believe. I am told by one person that if I work out like crazy, do tons of cardio and eat this exact diet that he has, that I should be able to lose up to 30lbs in the 10 week cycle. I dunno.... It's all very confusing and of course I want to see fast results but I'm just not sure which way to go.

Read the stickies up at the top of the forum, especially the shadow plan. It will give you a good diet to follow. I'm going to start it after my baby arrives in late August. I will have at least 50 lbs to lose too. You really don't need Winstrol yet, if you ever will. If you do use it, get advice from some of the girls on here who have experience with these things and who are not trying to sell you anything. Some men who try to sell you stuff will say anything to make a sale.

Are you already losing weight? It's apparent that your diet is cleaned up, but you only told us how much you weigh and have gained. Since cleaning up your diet, and starting to workout, have you started losing weight?

Hey Anthony,

I think I have lost about 3lbs, but like I said, I have only been eating like twice a day. I have always tried starving myself, but i know now that it doesnt work. I bought the Xyience Xtreme Protein powder to make shakes with also. Is that a good one??

Obviously you should spread your meals out better...but if you are losing weight, then you have an idea of the amount of calories you should be taking (i.e. the same amount you're taking right now, just spread out better).

I don't know about that protein powder, actually. Mostly, when I know about supplements, they fall into the area I work in more directly.

Hi girl - yes jiu jitsu will kick your ass literally! Killer workouts, good balance, core, etc.

The diet is going to be 80% of your fat loss efforts tho and w/ that intense activity you will need to fuel appropriately. As Anthony said - we really don't know much about you yet - can you check out the stickies above for lots of great reading in general and also give us some basic info to start with? It sounds like even though you've cleaned up your diet, with only 2 meals / day you are seriously undereating. You also need a good balance of protien, fats and yes, carbs. They all serve a purpose.

For a general intro to "diet" and "nutrition" I like to suggest reading Bill Philips' BODY FOR LIFE book - its easier than piecemeal asking & us explaining the different parts of the whole picture. You don't have to use the EAS products he promotes in the book but its a good set of guidelines for a very flexible and liveable diet - mind you that we are talking about establishing some lifestyle changes that will promote fat loss and achievement of your goals - not a concentrated 10 week starvation course. Once you go off that type of extreme program your body will probably rebound like crazy - the point is to do it in a healthy & maintainable way.

Can you list your current diet in detail, e.g.

Meal 1: 8 am
1/2 c oatmeal
3 egg whites
whatever

Meal 2: 11 am
protein shake

Meal 3: 2 pm
4 oz chicken
1/2 c brown rice
etc

Better yet, if you put that meal plan into a food counts program like www.fitday.com (its free, online, takes a few minutes to set up, VERY useful) it will actually show you how much and what you are (and aren't) eating. VERY ILLUSTATIVE of what you really are eating - most people think they are eating "clean" when they may not be, or not eating enough, or too much. Better to quanitify.
