New Girl! Needs help! :)

looking to lean

New member
Hi, I'm "looking to lean"s girlfriend and I've been reading this site for almost a month and have gotten so much inspiration from it that I have decided to post finally!

I am 5"1 and I weigh 105lbs. I do not know my bodyfat% at this time. I want to get leaner and gain some muscle mass back. I was a serious and competive ballet dancer for approx 10 years but I had to quit due to feet surgery and after taking a few years off my body has really suffered. I mostly hold my fat in my butt and my boobs and a bit on the love handle area.

Right now I am using the Precor elliptical for 30 mins daily (unless i go to the gym) I have been going to the gym about 3 times a week right now and would definitaly like to up that. I also do a 2 min walk/ 1 min run through a trail that has many ups and downs and 4 sets up stairs about 2-3x's a week..it takes me about 45 minutes. This is only my 3rd week and already I feel so much better. My bf is really experienced in weight training on the man's side of things but isn't too sure what is the best for a woman. I have been doing an hour long full body workout for the last few weeks and I'm thinking of trying Shadows Project so that I can focus on seperate areas of the body. My doctor recommended I do the Zone diet. I picked up the book but I haven't gotten very far on it yet.

My biggest downfall is my diet..I have a really bad sweet tooth and I can't seem to stop the cravings and myself from giving in at night time! I realize this is the WORST time to eat sugary foods and this makes me feel even worse after I have done better in the day. I have definitaly cut down on the sugary foods limiting myself..but geez one cookie can be like 200 cals! My diet is so inconsistant right now that there is no point in me writing out everything I eat here. I started using fitday but lately I haven't been writing in it..I figure I need to start over with the diet and start over with the fitday. I won't have such a fast metabolism forever! I am also taking Gluccoral and Sesapure with meals and a One a Day Women's Multivitamin.

I only have one medical condition and it is a heart condition where the nodes in your heart fire at the same time and so your heart works overtime..basically if you overwork yourself when this is happening it can cause you to faint/get short of breath/have pain or heavyness in your chest.
I have noticed this has decreased since i have been exercising and i hadn't had in in about 2 months but I just got it again last week. When I have it I wake up and I know it right away..it is very discouraging because any amount of activity is very hard on my heart and it pumps so hard and sometimes so irratically I can hear it and feel it with any step. I have eased myself into exercising and on days that I feel it I can't exercise but as I said I have only experienced it once in the last 3 weeks that I have exercised.

Well this post is very long but any opinions or suggestions you ladies can give me will be much appreciated! thanks so much!

:arty: WELCOME TO EF! :arty:

For physical matters, you know what you can and can't do but pay attention to what the doctor says.

You have to get your diet lined out --You are worth the effort and you can conquer the sweet tooth. :garza:

We can help  :velvett:

So Welcome and let the journey begin!

"Book Diets" are temporary solutions. In the end you need to learn how to provide your body with a balanced diet... the zone is the least offensive of the bunch, and does make some good points, but in the end you have to come up with something you can live with long term.
Are you really going to avoid starches the rest of your life? Probably not, so its best to work out a diet plan that is based around moderation.

Also, research is showing that long term use of diets that severely restrict carbohydrates may be leading to adult onset diabetes due to damage occuring in the pancreas. The pancreas NEEDS to produce insulin.

Its all about moderation. If you can work that out, you can even indulge your sweet tooth... in moderation ;)

I think youll do fine, just give yourself time and understand that fitness is not a sprint, its a marathon.

Here's an example of how I handle my sweet tooth:

Whenever I really really really really want a jelly doughnut - - I take a tablespoon of smuckers sugar free blackberry jam and spread it on a low carb tortilla, roll it up and eat it slowly. I also make sure that I do my best to stay within my calorie range and most days I can.

You can do this. :garza:
