All right boys and girls,

I was talking to my strength guru at the gym last night after squatting and he was talking to me about doing one handed snatches. Anyone who is familiar with olympic lifting is familiar with the 2 handed overhead snatch, one of the two remaining olympic lifts.

Well, after we talked about it we had to go to the platform and see what I could do. Now I have no idea if this is a lot or not, having never seen these performed, nor performing them myself before, but after 3 sets of 3, I decided to jump up the weight a bit and see how much I could do. I ended up with a 125 lb single hand overhead snatch.

I was quite proud of this. Today, I am realizing a lot of the things that people say about olympic lifting is true. I am burnt from neck to toenails from this.

Grab the olympic bar in the center with one hand, standing facing the bar, bend down very far, exploding the bar up as high and fast as possible while extending your legs and torso, then after a hard second pull, snap the bar to full extension overhead while dipping your body down under the bar. Straighten up to full extension and there you have it.

Be aware that this is not a movement where you can be spotted. We decided last night that this is a very honest lift. You either get it, or you do not. No way to cheat this one, or get some help.

Give it a try sometime.

I used to do those when I was younger (20-25 yrs ago) and lighter (30kg ago). They're a great movement and you can work up to some decent poundages with them. Way more than half of your 2 hand snatch.

Hey BM I tought you went bench only a while ago........I take it you still train the other lifts? Reckon I'm gonna have to have a go at one handed snatches now :) 125 sounds impressive though.
