right now, he eats like absolute shit and he doesnt want to change. His diet consists of something like, waffles with tons of butter and syrup in the morning, coffee, coffee.... coffee, fast food or occasionally he'll go out to a restaurant, microwave dinner, microwave dinner, coffee, microwave dinner bed. His diet is godawful and it really scares me that if he doesn't change he may end up with some serious problems later on. he's only 40 so he has lots of time to turn it all around but he's so fucking stubborn, no matter what i tell him, he wont change or even consider a new diet. I dont know what to do. Anyone else have similar problems? how'd you convince your dad or whoever to start eating better?

I'm sure he realizes he's not doing himself any favors by eating junk. I'm also sure that he doesn't like having his bad habits pointed out to him repeatedly, especially by his son. That's just human nature.
The solution is to keep your mouth shut about it and model correct eating/training. If you are looking good and fit, coupled with the knowledge of his impending mortality (I'm 49, and I know I'm not going to live forever), he may very well come to you at some point for advice.
He's an adult, treat him as such. Do you like it when he interjects his unsolicted opinions about your adult behaviors?

My father is the same :(
trouble is he's also a diabetic but doesn't look after himself well
He can avoid sugar but When i tell him about what carbs he should eat and shouldnt eat he's like oh ok, so what can I eat then? and i tell him but he says ok and then the next moment carries on eating his cornflakes and and processed carbs not to mention the fat :(

Holy shit, that post made me hungry.

Anyway, I found it impossible to change the eating patterns of any of my relatives. I don't know why, but all of them are just too set in their ways to listen to me.

You can't make that decision for him. I'd guess he knows his diet is not not good. Does he know that it could cause health problems? If he doesn't, tell him. If he does, he's made his own decision.

Babyfaced
yeah thats exactly like my dad only he's not diabetic. I explain everything i know about dieting and eating healthy only to have him back in the kitchen eating a box of orea's 10 minutes after I talked with him. I guess it's no use... i'll just shut up about it and hope he figures it out. I really hope he does.
