doctors always say that shit, because they arent therapists.

do you honestly believe every person on SSRI's has a chemical imbalance? honestly?

plus, allow me to let you in on a dirty little secret. one of my family's friends is a doctor, and he told us that the pharmacuetical industries give them kickbacks all of the time for giving out samples and writing out prescription drugs. they cant give out cash, so they go with gift certificates to amazon.com and other stores, steak dinners at nice restaurants, and sometimes even vacations.

no kidding the drugs will make her feel better, because that's what they are designed to do. does she want to stay on them for the rest of her life? does she know that an article came out recently linking the use of prozac to cancer?

i know this won't fly with a lot of people here, but i think the majority of people on SSRI's do not need them, they just prefer to use them as a crutch, instead of finding out what is causing their depression.

p0ink is pretty much right on all this stuff. I do beleive that one's environment or one's mentality can cause chemical imbalances.

however, what people miss is that anti-depressants are supposed to be used IN CONJUNCTION with therapy. the medication gets the person out of their depressed state so they can think more clearly and thus begin to start focusing on the causes of the depression.

to take anti-depressants without therapy only masks the problem, and eventually you will need to increase your dose over a period of time. And since these meds are pretty new, nobody knows the LONG TERM side effects.

And I'm saying this as a person who is diagnosed as being depressed and who (hopefully) will never use anti-depressants again.... and I've done a lot of them.

My GF has been on Prozac for the past year and it's destroying her sex drive. Is there anything else she can take that will not effect her sex drive? What is the solution to this problem because our sex life is virtually non-existant.

Have her ask her doc about Welbutrin and/or Zoloft.

I have seen a chick on Welbutrin turn into a complete sex freak.
