*Florida looks to tighten SEC East race*
----------------------------------------
No. 11 Tennessee (19-4) at No. 9 Florida (22-4) 8:00 pm EST
GAINESVILLE, Florida (Ticker) -- With four games remaining on its
Southeastern Conference slate, No. 9 Florida has its sight set on
closing the gap with 11th-ranked Tennessee, beginning when the teams
meet Wednesday.
The Gators (22-4, 8-4 SEC East), who are coming off an 85-81
overtime loss at Arkansas, sit two games behind the Volunteers
(19-4, 10-2) in the division standings.
To narrow the gap in the race, Florida will have to recover from
Saturday's difficult setback in which it fell for the third
time in five road games.
Taurean Green led the Gators with 20 points and Joakim Noah
added 16 points and nine rebounds for Florida, which is 5-4
since its 17-0 start.
The Gators are 15-1 at home, one win shy of matching the school
record for home victories in a season. They also are two
triumphs short of matching the 2002-03 squad's mark of 24
regular season wins.
Tennessee saw its eight-game winning streak snapped with
Saturday's 92-79 loss at Alabama, its first league loss in over
a month.
Chris Lofton scored 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting but his
Volunteers teammates combined to go 22-of-55 (40 percent) and
never showed any ability to slow down the Crimson Tide's attack.
Tennessee has given up an SEC-high 74.9 points per game.
An unranked Vols squad started its recent eight-game surge with
an 80-76 victory over then-No.2 Florida on January 21. Lofton
led the way with 29 points and six rebounds.
