Syracuse (21-11) at No. 23 Georgetown (21-8) 7:00 pm EST
NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Next on Gerry McNamara's list is Georgetown.
Following a pair of memorable performances, the surging senior guard leads his Syracuse squad into Friday's semifinal matchup against No. 23 Georgetown in the Big East Conference Tournament.
After burying a running 3-pointer with 0.5 seconds left to lift the Orange (21-11) to a first-round win over Cincinnati on Wednesday, McNamara highlighted a 17-point, 13-assist effort against top-ranked Connecticut with another shot from the arc to force overtime.
Syracuse survived the thriller with an 86-84 victory, all but assuring itself an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The defending champs in this event, the Orange had a three-game losing streak down the stretch started with a 63-58 loss to the Hoyas, who used Ashanti Cook to limit McNamara to just 10 points on 3-of-10 shooting.
Cook and Jeff Green scored 16 points apiece and Brandon Bowman added 14 as Georgetown knocked off fourth-seeded Marquette on Thursday, 62-59. The Hoyas had just eight turnovers and made 18-of-22 (82 percent) free throws in reaching the semifinals for the first time since 2000.
Georgetown defeated Syracuse in the finals of the first Big East tourney in 1980 and the two also met in the championship game in 1984, 1987, 1989, and 1992. The Hoyas have won six of 11 meetings in the event.
The winner will face either Villanova or Pittsburgh in Saturday's championship game.
