*Boston College makes debut in ACC tourney against Maryland*
------------------------------------------------------------
Maryland (19-11) at No. 11 Boston College (24-6) 9:30 pm EST
GREENSBORO, North Carolina (Ticker) -- After a successful
regular season in its first foray into the Atlantic Coast
Conference, No. 11 Boston College seeks similar results when
it begins play in the league tournament Friday against
Maryland in the quarterfinals.
The Eagles (24-6) started ACC play with a loss to the Terrapins
(19-11) on December 11, following that up with two more league
setbacks.
With talk beginning that it wasn't prepared for the move to the
ACC, Boston College rebounded to win 11 of its last 13 league
games and gained the third seed for its first ACC tournament.
Jared Dudley and Craig Smith combined for 28 points in the
Eagles' sluggish 59-57 victory over Virginia Tech on Saturday,
their third consecutive win to end the regular season.
They may need a better effort in order to contain a desperate
Maryland squad fighting for an NCAA Tournament berth. A
difficult regular season has been made more promising with three
straight wins for the Terrapins, including an 82-64 triumph
over Georgia Tech in Thursday's first round.
Senior Nik Caner-Medley led the way with 20 points for Maryland,
which won this event in 2004 before being ousted in the first
round by Clemson last year.
The winner advances to face either North Carolina or Virginia in
Saturday's semifinals.
