Ncaa 10-2 Football Marshall Vs Memphis

Don't expect Marshall coaches and players to feel too sorry for Memphis this week. The Thundering Herd has plenty of its own problems.

When Marshall plays at Memphis on Oct. 2, it will be the third game in 11 days for Memphis. The first two games have been disasters for the Tigers, with a 56-20 loss at Central Florida on Sept. 22 and a 35-31 loss at Arkansas State on Sept. 27.
The situation was forced upon Memphis when its originally scheduled game at Arkansas State on Sept. 8 was postponed by dangerous weather.

"They have no choice," Marshall quarterback Bernard Morris told the Huntington Herald-Dispatch, discussing Memphis' circumstances. "They're going to have to get ready for us some way, and we have to take advantage of the break we have to try to get a win."

While Marshall has been pushing three games into a short period, Marshall hasn't played since a 40-14 loss at Cincinnati on Sept. 22. Between an 0-4 start and a multitude of injuries, mostly on defense, the Herd needed some time to rest, take a deep breath and collect itself before opening its Conference USA schedule against the Tigers.

"They're ready for a win, and we're starving for one," Morris said.

Marshall still will be without at least five projected starters when it plays Memphis, but at some point the Herd will have to learn how to make the most of what it has.

"We've played some very good football teams, and we have to be sure we use that to our advantage going into conference play," Marshall coach Mark Snyder said. "Learn from our mistakes, lick our wounds, and let's grow up and get this thing done."
