*Kings hope to continue midseason surge*
----------------------------------------
Sacramento (25-29) at LA Lakers (27-26) 10:30 pm EST
LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Sacramento Kings look like a
different team with Ron Artest. They hope to continue their
recent surge Thursday when they visit Kobe Bryant and the Los
Angeles Lakers.
Since acquiring the mercurial Artest on January 25, the Kings
have experienced a rebirth on the defensive end. Traditionally
one of the league's weaker defensive clubs, Sacramento has
yielded just 91.7 points per game in 12 contests with Artest.
The Kings won their ninth straight home game - a convincing
102-77 victory over Golden State on Tuesday. Brad Miller had
17 points and Mike Bibby chipped in 16 for Sacramento, which
improved to 7-5 with Artest.
The Kings hope to improve to 2-0 this season against a Lakers
squad which has dropped six of its last nine.
Los Angeles got off to a good start in the second half of the
season with a 99-82 triumph over Portland.
The NBA's leading scorer, Bryant poured in 15 of his 27 points
in the fourth quarter while Lamar Odom added 20 points and 17
rebounds for the Lakers, who have won eight of their last 10 at
home.
