*Improving Lakers try to send Clippers to sixth straight defeat*
----------------------------------------------------------------

LA Lakers (28-26) at LA Clippers (30-23) 10:30 pm EST

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- All of a sudden, the Lakers are starting
to play like the Lakers. And right on cue, the Clippers are
starting to play like the Clippers.

When the Los Angeles rivals square off Friday, the Lakers will
be seeking their fifth win in seven games, while the Clippers
will aim to put an end to their season-high five-game losing
streak.

The Lakers are coming off Thursday's 106-85 rout of the
Sacramento Kings behind 36 points from Kobe Bryant, who also
added a season-high 10 assists. The league's leading scorer got
plenty of support from Lamar Odom, who contributed 19 points,
and Devean George, who added 15 off the bench.

Meanwhile, the Clippers were one of the league's biggest
surprises of the first half but have dropped five straight for
the first time since an eight-game skid from February 4-23,
2005.

The Clippers' latest defeat came Wednesday, 106-102, against the
Houston Rockets despite 32 points from Elton Brand and 30 from
Cuttino Mobley. Brand also pulled down 12 rebounds, but the
Clippers still were outrebounded for the fifth straight game.

The Lakers snapped a three-game losing streak to their crosstown
rivals with a 112-109 victory on January 7 behind Bryant's 50
points - 40 of which came in the second half - including the
game-winning jumper with 12 seconds left.
