My life ended yesterday! :(

In june last year I unfortunately fractured my right elbow. The surgeons operated screws and cerclage into my elbow to make the bones(elbow) connect and stay connected so that it could grow together again. I have since the operation been troubled with my arm whenever the right tricep is activated. Thus, it's been very little weightlifting for the last 7-8 months...

Like I said, the time went by and it didn't get any better, so the the surgons finally decided to remove the screws and ceclage. They probably caused an irritation in my elbow, they said.

This operation was done yesterday, and the first thing I heared the surgon said when I woke up was "I hope you don't have any plans becomming a world champion".

The fracture has grown good, BUT, the elbow has some crushed parts which havn't grown any good. The bonetissue or whatever it's called is supposed to grow in straight lines, but in my case some of it have grown in cross etc.. This is what causes the problem.
Quote from report: "It looks like it is some irregularity in the jointarea equivalent olecranonfracture"

The surgeon keeps talking about how good RUNNING is. This actually made me mad/sad, because running and weightlifting is like night and day. Then he told me that I might have to take it easy for a FEW YEARS!

I just wanted to kill myself when I heard that, because I've had plans to compete soon.

Another quote from the raport: "It's possible the patient will notice pain from the elbow joint for a few years, because the fracture has been some "comminutt", which means little parts have been towards/against the jointarea/surface. Thus, he should try to avoid training that cause pain in the years to come. He may do some running and swimming, though.."

And here comes the question, I have just one life to live, and I want to spend my youth to do what I love, bodybuilding/powerlifting!
Are there any steroids that have a healing effect on my skeleton? I think about doing AS as a medicine, not for any other reason, yet..

What can be used?

I have planed to bring this issue up for my doctor, but I havn't seen him for years, so I don't know where he "stands" when talking about steroids.
But I mean, if there are steroids/GH out there that can help me, I see no reason not to use a therapautic dosage(maybe other medicines..).

Now I'm sitting here eating painkillers, and have never been so depressed before. And it doesn't make it any better that the people around me try to lighten up my day by saying "I'm big enough as I am", my God...

You guys understand, I know that:)

Thanks for all response that can bring me back to the gym!

Depression sucks... I do all that I can to make sure that I do not think about the bad in my life. If my passions were ended, I'd refuse to give it up and keep going until the last go is run...

:kaioken:

hey remember doctors arent always right!! many people have come back from supposed "career" ending injuries.

you need a 2nd opinion. There are many good surgeons out there that specialize in athletes so I wouldn't just take one guy's word for it.

I would strongly recommend Dr. Lemack or Andrews at HealthSouth in Birmingham. They are both world renown. If you aspirations or competing I certainly wouldn't give up without at least talking to the best.

Good luck bro...

Yeah Bro, hang tough, doctors don't know all there is to know...even less...I bet you'll be training hard in the very near future...never ever give up hope...never ever give up period.

They call it a "practice"........

because the MD's do not have all the answers and they arent always right. Determination and will power can do more than any lil bottle of pills.

Bro....my prayers are with ya.....but you cant quit....prove the idiots wrong.

Ummm, steroids wont help much bro, perhaps nandrolone will but that may be just for the duration of the cycle. I will pray for you tonight, and I really think you will get a second shot, got get another opinion bro and never give up hope. Take care and good luck

I severly fractured my arm and now have 2 - 8" steel plates in my arm. I have had 2 surguries on it 1 year after the first one the bone in my forarm had a 1" gap in between them. It was growing apart. I went to another doctor who took bone from my hip and placed in my arm. After the surgury, I started using deca (which has been proven to increase bone density) and also Growth Hormone, which is one of the primary reasons younger people heal so fast. 2-3 months later my arm was completely healed.

Deca and growth - What a combination.

Good luck

Bro, I had lower back surgery in '84. After my surgery (like a week), like a fucking moron, I worked out. With my surgery they made an incission approximately 7 inches long and actually scraped tendons off of vertebra. They reattached it with sutures (or whatever you call it) but while working out a week later, I re-tore it off of the vertebra. I was fucked. My left leg dragged when I walked and I was in more pain than I've ever had in my entire life. I went beck to my doc but he refused to go back in. I was in some real deep shit. To make a long story short, I learned about DMSO. I used it constantly for months. Bro, with no exageration whatsoever, that stuff healed me. I recently had a MRI in that area and the doc said there was absutely no evidence that I had ever had surgery there. He said "wow, you must have had one heck of a surgeon because I can't see any evidence of any scar tissue at all." He also said that's very unusual. I'm convinced that was due to the DMSO. I realize bro's use it for getting things into the body but there are more important uses for it. Bro, research the stuff, believe me, it will be worth your while. All the best and don't ever give up, the human is amazing at being able to heal itself if given the chance.

When I went into the pro-wrestling business, I went in with bum knees, ankles, a bum neck... Hell, somebody tried to break my neck in training last April. You swallow the pain and use it to bring yourself back to prominence. Good luck to you, bro.

sorry to hear about that bro. give it a whil. doctors arent always right in what they speak of. just let it heal and relax a bit. do not lose the motivation or the desire and you will pull through this

You need to see an experienced Sports medicine doctor. When I messed up my knee I went straight to the guy who worked with the pro teams in the area, and he was comfortable in taking an aggressive approach.

If there is an NFL team in your area try to find out what docs they use. Those guys are used to patching joints up.

Thanks guys, for all the advices you have given me!

The "DMSO thing" was very interesting, even though I have no idea what it is... I'll try do a search.

I've also heard Pemasteron/masteron can make the bone thicker, or increase density. hmm..

All i can do is bump this.....

i would give it a try.

2nd Opinion

I would go see Dr. Hughston at Hughston's Sports Clinic in Columbus, GA. They are widely known for treating sports injuries. Some of the patients include: Bo Jackson, Frank Thomas, among others. My GF went there for reconstructive surgery on her knee and they replaced the whole thing and she gets along fine now that it's been 2 yrs.

hey man,
if you think of the countless number of things that couldgo wrong in your life and compare it to what is happening to you, maybe you will see things a little differently. there are millions of people in this world who would kill to trade places with you and your elbow problem for whatever reasons they have.
life can be a bitch, but just try to deal with the cards you'vebeen dealt and take it one step at a time. after all, things could always be a lot worse!
DOCV

I hope he doesn't mind me saying this but you should talk to Zyglamail bro. Talk about mind over matter success. I remember reading about how he overcame a lot of obstacles and is still lifting.

ur life hasnt ended. say the doc had said 'sorry we couldnt save ur sight'. or 'sorry the second testicle was also cancerous and we had to remove it'.

get things in perspective. come out fighting and u'll get over this, keep training , get the rest of ur body in top condition and when ur elbow allows u'll be back and firing on all cylinders.

damn, bro... i couldn't imagine. stay in the gym.... take it easy on the elbow... just try to build back the tissue first and keep going. best of luck to you.

peace,
ragin'

I have sent an e-mail to m.o.d and Zyglamail now.. Maybe they have a couple of wise words to tell me.

And I have done a reaserch about "DMSO". It seems like DMSO is used more to heal muscletissue etc. Not the skeleton...? :/

Bro, the doctors are always going to tell you not to lift, or that you can't lift. If they tell you to go ahead, they could face a lawsuit.

When I dislocated my shoulder on the military press, I was told I would never lift again. I went back to training too soon out of denial, and It really was impossible. I ended up in deep depression for 1.5 years and ended up with no muscle mass and a 40 inch gut. Last Febuary, I got sick of what I was doing to myself, I joined a gym and did cardio and very little lifting, focusing on healing my rotator cuff. I swear to you that the first time I benched, I had trouble with 65lbs, but I never gave up.

Don't make the same mistake I made.

:(
Just take it slow....you never know what you will be able to do later on down the road......
some doctors tell people they'll never be able to walk again...6 months later they are.....
I have read stories about bb's who were in comas and couldnt even walk when they got up...but eventually got back where they left off......
Good luck to you.

I have read

a few studies concerning human growth hormone and test help with vertabra fractures in the back, now whether or not it could help is unknown but I feel it is worth a shot, you just never know how the human body will react..also winny helps by increasing red blood cell production, hence the strength increases.

As far as being depressed, i would think it would be normal to be depressed, it is when it is going on continuosly is when you have to seek help, and in that regaurd growth hormoner and test will help with depression

I'll collect some info also and fwd it to you.

That's great.

I'm surfing the net all day and collecting info myself, and I read all your posts with appreciation.

I've also thought about buying the book "Grow young with HGH, by Dr. Ronald Klatz". A guy I know online suggested it..

BIGbouncer man, I pray you'll stick to lifting. Do it for yourself. Show those dum bastards a thing or two!! Through thick and thin, I hope you stick to it!! Our prayers are with you my man!!

doctors tend to be more dramatic than they need to be. definately give yourself time to heal and i'm sure you can get back at it.

i recently had hand surgery and it is so depressing. all i talk about is getting back in the gym for real and the doctor or therapist will tell me i can do cardio. cardio sux. so i lift with one hand and pound legs. basic exercise works wonders for the healing process.

good luck:angel:

My brother broke his elbow when he was 19...he had asperation to pitch in the magor leagues, threw the first no hitter in th50 year history of his high school, could throw 20-30- MPH faster then any one else his age ...could throw at your eyes and have it hit your ankles...but the elbow would not extend all the way afterr he got out of the cast ...but yopu know what fixed it???? weight lifting after a year or 2 he could extend his elbow like normal....as for the DMSO go for it ...very good stuff may help.

Hey, have anyone of you guys tried prolobtherapy?(prolobtherapy.com)

Zyglamail told me he had tried this with good results. But I'm not sure the doc's where I live can do this, hmm..

One thing is for sure, I wont give up after reading all your posts. I have gained motivation to find solutions which can help me out(hopefully)!

But I'm nervous about my first work out. Maybe a miracle will happen, and my arm is 100% ok. Or it's fucked like the last 7-8 months.

Guess it's best to not have too high hopes this early..

This solution is VERY RISKY.

Ask the doctors to re-BREAK your elbow at the point where
you're bone grew skewed. Then they'd try to
re-position the fracture so that it grows straight.

Its 50/50. You just have to decide how important BB'ing is
for you.

If it doesn't work you could screw-up your elbow for life.
If you do nothing, no more weights.

Not an easy decision by any means.

Fonz.

Try to stay positive bro. As everyone else has already mentioned, doctors are not always right. I'd suggest doing a medline search on your condition. This will give you a broader view and understanding of what's going on and you may read about some experimental treatments that may be beneficial to you. Just don't give up or feel sorry for yourself. I severly dislocated my hip two years ago in a motorcycle accident and the MDs were questioning if I'd ever walk again. Fuck them. A year later I was onstage at Musclemania at took a top 5 finish. Bottom line....it's not going to be easy, but you can do it.

hmm..sounds scary man!

I don't know if that's a good idea, because those small "parts"(you know what i mean by "parts"?=) I'm talking about came when I first fractured it(crushed the elbow). A second fracture might cause even more small parts which will grow in cross etc and cause more problems.

The surgeon said the bone had grown very good. It was just those small parts that made it all bad..

The fractured bone hasn't grown wrongly agains eachother, if that is what you thought?
