My hands are getting destroyed

Remember another thread where you said you workout in a gym vs home, if you're at home, bleed all ya want :)

Blood on equipment at the gym is not a good thing IMO. I know you said you're against gloves, but if I had open wounds on my hands I wouldn't be touching the equipment w/o them, esp. after another "bleeder". I'd also have the staff bleach any equipment w/ blood on it before I'd use it too. Your hands will still harden up with the gloves, it'll just take longer.

Everyone can proceed to call me a big baby now, but exchanging bodily fluids at the gym isn't my idea of a good time.... :)

AustinTX I was thinking the exact same thing. I'm a sissy and use gloves since I don't enjoy callouses. :o

CollegeKid what type of grip do you use? I am so puny it is laughable so I know my experience can't help here, but I understand that a mixed grip helps keep the bar from moving as much. I'm sure someone who lifts heavier could verify this (or not).

I keep lotion on my hands at all times. It actually helps to keep the 'rough' callouses away...preventing ripping while doing deads and any grip exercises.

Well...I use chalk when I train...lotion a lot through the day..

austin: my gym definitely does NOT have any other bleeders, it's the typical non-hardcore scene with ppl using machines set on the 5lb plate for everything. and i'm almost always the last one in the gym, and they spray everything down as i'm leaving. i guess there's always a risk of exchanging bodily fluids still, but i'm counting on it not being too great of a risk.

2shy: yeah, i use mixed grip, left under right over, otherwise there'd be no way i could pull anything above 300.

bfold: good idea with the lotion!

thanks for the tips dudes.

haha, my hand are getting pretty bad/good, depending on how you look at it. over winter break i actually ripped 2 callouses and one other spot of skin on the palm of one hand off. ouch. that was when my finger had that beer bottle cut; it was pretty gruesome looking. :) i almost want to start using gloves again...

If you really need you can use straps on the heavy lift and work on your grip on the lgihter lifts untill your hands get tough enough so they won't bleed....
