Movie: Black Kings

The other night I watched a movie (documentary) called "Black Kings" about a high level Karate invitational Japan (I think it was Japan). The movie was made in the '70s and was "retro cool", I guess.

What was so interesting was watching Kung FU against TKD. In one fight the Kung Fu fighter just goes ballistic on his opponent. He must have hit and kicked him 50 times in the first minute. The TKD guy lands a few punches and the Kung Fu guy quits and withdraws from the tournament.

The fighting styles have come a long way. The elite athletes in the sport a few decades ago would not have a chance today.

I've seen this documentary, too. Its called "The Fighting Black Kings", about black belts from all over the world fighting in a full contact tournament in Japan. the "UFC" of the 70's I guess. There were kung fu fighters from China and Muay Thai fighters from Thialand in it. I was most interested in the muay thai fighters, especially since one of the fighters was the "world champion". This dude won his fights in this tournament, but forfeighted (however you spell it) because he didn't want to face a larger opponent.
As far as how they would do against the MMA fighters today, I agree that they certainly wouldn't have the "real" training that the fighters today go through. But when you watch this movie, some of the fighters put away their opponents pretty brutally (But reality fighting sure has come a long way!). So what they did know was pretty effective.
Great movie to watch, highly recommended for anyone into martial arts, stand-up or groundfighting.
