More thoughts and opinions needed...

Looks okay to me. Any way to add a couple of dumbbells to it? I went to the local Sports Authority store to get mine when I worked out at home. I think I paid about $35 for 2 db bars with 40# worth of plates and screw on clips. I still use them when I miss the gym. Another good investment I personally made was in a resistance ball. I use it for abs regularly and it is great for stretching.

I figured I would have to get the extra weight set they sell for 20 bucks that would add an additional almost 100 pounds. I can already bench a 100 pounds so I knew for anything serious I would have to add weights. I however never considered the shoulder thing, good pick up on that one! My shoulders are extremely broad, I make most men look like shoulderless whimps. My legs however are pretty short considering my height, I'm pretty much all torso but having said that my body would come down the pad pretty far. Maybe I should just get the barbell set to start with and worry about the rest when the money situation is better? At least it would be a starting point???

Between where I live, you live and Kat, we'll keep an eye on the classifieds and get you some good olympic stuff. That way, when you hit that 500lb deadlift you'll have gear that can handle it:)

500lb dead lift??? Oh man!!! With you moving away my friend I don't know about that! I might have to follow you guys just to train with you. :p

What happened to the gym membership? If you live alone and plan to workout alone, I wouldn't be squatting and benching alone in my home, especially if you are new at it. Unless you are just going extremely light (light enough not to crush yourself!). Not that you need to do either to get started, but squats are quite fantastic.

Find something suitable and safe or go to a gym where you can be rescued. I've flown face first into a wall on a non cheap bench with a bad pin, with weights in my hands. Not fun stuff.

OUCH!!! That wall thing doesn't sound pleasant.
The gym membership is pretty much dependent on this guy I know adding me to his membership. It may not actually happen, sorta hard to call, but I am being extra nice. :D

I wasn't really figuring I would max out on the bench, just do reps and work on starting with some weights until a gym membership could become more financially feasible maybe in January. Maybe my thinking is skewed....

It's fine for starting weights, and it's fine for backup once you are in a gym. I know a lot of people resent having a big bench around the house. Especially one with a bench rack, where you can't just push it in the corner.

Just be careful and don't go heavy and crazy. All you really need though to start if money is still a concern are some adjustable DB's. You'll respond quickly at first and be sore as hell, but you'll learn to love it.

Throw couch cushions on the floor for DB bench press, so your elbows don't bang. Can do flye's this way too, or if you have a regular long bench, hope chest, aerobics step.

Shoulder presses, lateral raise, front raise, bicep curls, hammer curls, concentration curls (just sit on a chair), overhead tricep extensions, bent over row, rear delt flye, DB squats, DB deadlifts, stand on a phone book or whatever for calf raises either with just your own body weight or some DB's in your hand.

Your legs should probably ache squatting ass to floor with just bodyweight at first too. Same with lunges. You could go get in a leg workout right now without anything and not be able to sit down on the toilet tomorrow without screaming.
