Ok laides could you help this guy out. My girl friend called me tonight and told me her mom walked in her room and said "so when are u going to lose weight". Shes in pretty good condition if you ask me just needs to lose some weight here and there (she thinks so).Shes a hard gainer im thinking and doesnt like doing grueling weight work. Also, college is starting soon so do you women have any advice i could give her (prerably what she can do at home)...also any good fat burning pills out there?

Thanks
Ash and Kev

Ouch. No one likes to be told that they need to lose some weight. (As if all women didnt' know that anyway LOL!)

Let's start w/ basic diet, training & cardio. Sure, she can try any one of the thermogenics (ECA) - Ripped Fuel, Xenadrine, etc. However if she is following a crappy diet, its not really gonna matter. Does she train? Can you post a sample of her current typical day's meals and also some stats - height, weight, guess at bodyfat?

Of course there are two required steps -- 1) education and 2) commitment to get results. OK, let's not forget 3) patience. There are no magic pills so accept that as a given and work with what nature gave u -- your brain!

The first steps to easy education:
- read the stickies on the top of this board
- if she doesn't train right now, I highly recommend Bill Phillips' Body For Life book. It lays out training & diet and its all doable while keeping a regular lifestyle. No need to kill yourself in the gym or at the table.

She also needs to work a little at adjusting her lifestyle to the diet / training she decides to follow - or the diet/training to her lifestyle - as long as she understands that just training doesn't work (w/ no diet) and just starving herself doesn't work either.

I think the main thing she needs to do is tell her mom to shut up and get some manners... :( Mine has finally stopped hassling me about my (medically normal) weight. Unfortunately women's preoccupation with model figures tends to distort their thinking around their family....

If she is going to college she probably has a gym there on campus she could use...take advantage of it!!! This HAS to be something she wants to do..its a lifestyle NOT a diet...Changing habits is not easy and u can not make someone do it. When i am in school i make time for my workouts...i even take books to the gym and read assignments while i ride the bike etc...kills 2 birds with one stone...If i am at home studying i take a break and head to the gym for my workout and come home and finish whatever...i pack food for class...take shakes and bars instead of nasty food they offer...you really have to plan and prepare...no way around it...a lot of people make excuses for themselves...blaming school, their job...etc...there is always a way to be healthy and fit...u just have to do it..It is sad her mother sad that to her....Just ignore her and realize she has issues of her own obviously!!! Be there to support your girlfriend...can u guys train together??

Thanks everyone.....She is 5'0 150lb a stocky women. SHe doesnt eat redicuously unhealthy either. She played volleyball in high school. She has a job on campus so she feels she wont have any time to do any fitness. i told her she needs to make it a priority (just like homework) She gets frustrated cuz she hasnt seen any results after 3 weeks (she doesnt stay consistant) doing cardio. Since she doesnt eat a large amount of food. I feel 20 to 25 min of cardio 3 times a week would do the trick. What do you all think?

thanks for your help

While her mom's definatley got tact problems, sometimes your nearest and dearest tell you what everyone is thinking.

20-30 minutes of just cardio won't do much to offset the icky food on campus and the sedentary life. She needs a weight routine, a good eating plan and the will to succeed. She probably not eating enough good food, and her metabolism has slowed down.

Get her on here.

Youch! Those words coming from Mom can really hurt. But even if Mom hadn't said anything, your girlfriend has reached the age where she must face the same truth we all face. There comes a point in everyone's (ok 99% of everyone's) life where you have to work for a fit body. We reach that time at different ages, and some of us must work harder than others, but there's really no way around it. The carefree days of our youth, eating whatever we want w/o any consequences, are gone for good.

Quick fixes last about as long as they take. Healthy eating and exercise need to become part of her lifestyle. We brush our teeth because we don't want cavities. If we want a healthy fit body, we must take care of it - we only get one! Results take time, but most of all they take consistency. A healthy diet need not be all doom and gloom, I still eat all my favorites like pizza and cookies, but since I eat healthy food, I crave less of the treat food.

Since she's at college in a new environment, this is a great time for her set some new good habits. The sooner she gets in the groove, the easier it'll be for her, plus she'll have a head start on all her friends who'll be trying (and failing) various crazy Hollywood diets, starvation diets, etc.

how about getting an inexpensive bike for her to go to class instead of riding the bus .... ride to work as well. Just a start anyway. But I totally agree with Fit, it probably time for her to readjust the habits a bit and take a turn to the healthy issues (healthy eating & fitness together).
