I will be in Chicago this weekend shopping. I know there is great shopping on Michigan Ave. but I would like to be pointed in the direction of some not so over priced stuff. Meaning designer knock off type of thing. I am staying downtown and wont have a car so basically only stuff in a reasonable cab distance or I may try to ride the L.

Wow too bad I'll be out of town this weekend w/ the honey! ;)
But as for Michigan Ave., - it's a ritzy shopping area. So you could hit Express & find great deals etc. But as for designer clothing, @ good prices, don't hold your breath on it. At least not on Michigan Ave that is! But do walk up & down on Michigan Ave - you'll like the shops etc & may find something! :) Wish I could help you out more, but the shops I hit like (Charlotte Russe, Arden B, Caché) are stores at the mall & they're quite a way even from the trains. You'd have to hit quite a few transfers from trains & buses & the schedules vary depending on where you're headed. So I'd recommend staying on Michigan Ave. Make sure you hit the Water Tower Place on Michigan Ave!! Also walk down State street - go to State & Washington you'll find a Marshall Fields & you can always find great clothing on clearance there! It's worth checking out!! :qt:

forgot to add...while you're on State street...just around the block (on Wabash in between Washington & Madison street) you'll find a TJ Maxx & I believe there's a Filene's Basement there too... definitely worth checking out as well!!!

Merchandise Mart is along the L and although I've never been in there, I've heard there is some good shopping. I missed out on a lot of the downtown shopping when I was living there.

oops, duplicated myself. :)

Just checking out the State Street website now :)
After shopping in Vegas I am used to the high end prices but just can't bring my self pay them. Hopefully I will find some deals well I am there. Never the less seeing Chi Will be cool.
Any other recommendations on stuff outside of shopping to check out?

Check out the Sears Tower Skydeck....
for fun, go to Uncle Julio's Hacienda - order their Sangria Swirl Frozen Margaritas - TO DIE FOR!!!

Warning about the SkyDeck... the line can be up to an hour long on weekdays. I'm not sure how bad it is on the weekends. The view was worth the wait though, IMO. The Shedd Aquarium was one of my favorite hangouts on hot days. Taking a water taxi from The Shedd to Navy Pier is a great way to see the skyline and give the feet a break.

I agree about those frozen margaritas... yummy!

Wow you had to wait an hour? Amazing! I used to work for a company located in the Sears Tower; I've gone quite a few times during the day & didn't see that much of a line. I think I waited 15 mins. They now present a mini movie about Chicago & then you get into an elevator that sends you a hundred+ floors in 60 seconds. The view is beautiful!! Make sure if you go, to go on a clear day! The Shedd Aquarium is DEFINITELY one of my faves! Navy Pier is also GREAT - you must go to both of those QT!! Have fun!!!!

Hey Super -

There's a H&M right across the street from Water Tower Place on Michigan Ave. Also, if you'll be doing shopping on State street, there is Forever 21.

Instead of going to the Sears, just go up to the Sky Lounge in the John Hancock. It's a great view and it's free! The drinks are expensive, but if you just want to check out the view, it's a great alternative to the Sears and it's right on Michigan Ave.

If you want to hit some boutiques, the neighborhoods are where you'll want to be. I live in Roscoe Village and there are some great shops around my place. Most are quite pricey, but Hanger 18 on Roscoe and She One on Southport are reasonable and they have great clothes & jewelry. Plus, both neighborhoods are easily accessible on the L. Are you coming into town solo? with friends?
