Military Press vs. Shrugs?

Whats the real difference between these two exercises? Is it possible to choose between one or the other if you had to, if so which is better?

they aren't really any closeness to them. shrugs for you r traps - military press for your delts, traps are hit a little bit. do them both

that's like comparing apples and oranges. do both and make sure to do the shrugs heavy, you're traps will love you for it.

cheers

Should military press be done seated or standing? What are the benefits of both?

I generally do seated as I feel I use less body English in the movement.

Doesn't make much difference. I prefer sitting because I stay more stationary and can concentrate more on form. Standing to me is more awkward, and you might get tempted to cheat by using your legs to push up the weight.

These two exercises are no where near the same! Military presses require pushing, as shrugs require pulling.

Both exercises provide benefits. Seated military presses add thickness to the delt caps, as shurgs work the traps and the side of the neck.

You are better off using both exercises in your routine.

Interesting, perhaps I'll go ahead and add these to my HST routine, I was alternating them with shrugs though.

why not do them both at the same time. well sorda. what im talking about is combing power clean and press. this kills both your traps and shoulders.

you have to use a little less weight than you can normally press. stand with the bar at waist level, dip down a little, (dont let the bar dip past your knees) power clean it up, and then press. drop the bar back down to your hips and repeat. i love this exercise.

hope this helps.
