’Twas the night before meet day, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The squat suit was hung by the gym bag with care,
Little clouds of chalk still hung in the air.
The bencher was nestled all snug in his bed,
His cannonball delts the size of his head;
He had set out his belt, and his prized ammonia caps,
Along with his favorite double-thick Inzer Z knee wraps,
When the clanging of cold iron made such a clatter,
He sprang from his bed to see what was the matter.
Down to his basement gym he flew like a flash,
when he heard a loaded barbell drop to the floor with a crash!
When, what to his wondering eyes should appear,
But a big bellied lifter in a red singlet with a beard.
With a BIG deadlift so lively and quick,
He knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his pulls they came,
As he grunted, and shouted, and yelled out in vain;
“That’s six reps with 660, Arggh! Make that SEVEN!
On meet day I’m going for eight hundred ELEVEN!
So you better get on the BAD list boy if you have any sense at all!
Cause that first place plaque is gonna be hanging on my wall!”
