Just wondering if gym's don't just bind you to a monthly membership, as I will only need to go to one for a few weeks when I go home for Christmas. I go to my campus gym now, so sorry if this may be common knowledge to all yall.
Depends on where you go. Some places will give out-of-towners a week rate over the holidays. Others will charge you up the ass for their regular daily rate. Only gym I know of that offers the week rate is the Y.
If you got a Bally's near you, you could go to their website and print off a free 2 week pass. Just feed em some line that you're new to the area and wanna try it out. Worked for me. Yeah, its not exactly hardcore, but free is free.
Avoid Bally's like the plague... they will cheat you for all the money you have. I would just go to the YMCA. They should have most of the equipment you'll need (although the DBs typically only go up to 100 lbs.).
I'm not familiar with Gold's, but I'd look into it if it is only 40-50 dollars a month (that is cheaper than the Y for me, which is $55/month).
Some gyms are weird like this. I moved to a different part of the country a few months ago. This week I had to go back to my old workplace for a couple of days. The manager of the gym that I previously used for 6 years would not even consider letting me in for those few days, even though the desk staff tried hard to get a special arrangement (always pays to have them on your side). So I went to another gym.......that happens to be frquented by some of this countries top powerlifters......that manager did me a favour
Other gyms will let you pay by the day......but they tend not to be franchise gyms.
