lose alot of mass on ckd?

kentucky

New member
I just read that energy comes from :

1. glycogen - liver stores
2. muscle
3. FAT

So while on CKD, can one expect to lose mass?

Is there any way to gain mass while on ckd?

I've lost 8 pounds in 5 days...was that all muscle...

someone please clarify this for me... If this is true then why all the hype over the Atkins diet/CKD???

not all muscle, i would say if your still lifting constantly, that 7 pounds was fat, and 1 pound was muscle.

If it was your first five days on the diet I would bet that most of the bw loss was from water.

what sort of calorie intake are you on? your bw?

macronutrient breakdown?

i thought that the idea was that energy would come initially from glycogen then after a couple of days the stores are depleted and the diet has put you in ketosis you start to use ketones as the main energy source.

provided you are not in too big a calorie deficit from maintence cals and protein intake is adequate and frequent that should keep muscle loss to a minimum.

my $0.02 worth.

The bulk of the 8 pounds was mostly water and glycogen stores (liver and muscles). Those will be replenished and possibly increased over the weekend if you carb up properly and what you'll be left with in the form of weight loss will have been almost all fat. The Atkins is different in that by never allowing carbs it doesn't allow effective weight training or the long-term support of lean tissue.

Ketones are supposed to be muscle sparing, which should minimize or eliminate muscle loss.

Personally I lost about 18 lbs bf, and not quite a lb of muscle.
Strength stayed the same. But, as they say, everyone is different.
