looking good for the upcoming weekend

i remember seeing a diet starting one week ahead of your photoshoot, beach trip, etc to help you look more cut. i'm at about 9-10% bodyfat and want to look good for this coming weekend, any help?

carb deplete maybe?

Edit: I was beat to it, lol.

Yes you will probably feel like ass...it's a competition preperatory measure. If the pros out weigh the cons for you it could be benificial.

The std last week "peak week" prep for a competition, photo shoot etc, is somethign like this:

Assuming a target date of Saturday ---

- the preceding Sunday - Wed - no complex carbs aka "carb deplete"
- Thurs - Fri - carb load - I'm a girl - I do my carb up on potatos at about 300 g carb/day -- takes 36-72 hrs for the carbs to fill you out --- so if you have any experience or time to experiment - do a 2-3 day deplete and then load to see how you respond to a complex carb up. -- What you want to see is how fast you fill out and then if you spill over.
Water deplete:
- Sun - Tues - drink 2 gal water / day, Wed - cut in 1/2 to 1 gal, Thurs - in half to 1/2 gal, Friday in 1/2 to 1/4 gal, sip as needed after about 6 pm. You should be dumping water like crazy (i.e. peeing) and start to feell really dried out in the mouth. When the carb load starts you should see your skin appear thinner & tighter as the carbs start to suck up all the subcutaneous water - as carbs require water to "hold" them (That's why when you cut carbs from your diet you pee a lot and look flat.) At the same time your muscles should look fuller as they fill out from the carbs and more vascularity & all that w/ the thinner skin / reduced subQ water.

That's pretty much it -- the carb deplete sucks if you aren't used to no complex carbs. And then you start to feel stupid in the head as you pass into ketosis. But then the carb up is like heaven - sugar buzz and then sugar coma!

If you have some event like this coming up, if you have the time, do a trial run of this to see how it works for you. In competition people also introduce natural or not natural diuretics -- an easy one to include is an OTC diuretic called MHP Expel - its a 5 day treatment (start it on Monday and just follow the directions) - it is potassium sparing so it shoudln't leave you feeling cramps or anything. Just helps to dump more water.

But like we told the guy in the thread linked above -- dont' do this if you have an activity out in the sun - the water deplete is one easy step away from dehydration. Competitors doing this stuff really don't do much of anything the last few days pre-comp except lie around & be miserable so don't do this if you are expecting to be doign something like an outdoor frisbee tourney in the middle of July.

And then also remember for every short term extreme thing you do to your body, expect it to rebound some when you go back to "normal" eating. In this case you would want to ease back into drinking water and eating carbs. Don't just start chugging 5 gals the day after your event. Just ease back into whatever you did the short term manipulation on. THe worst is the immediate water retention -- i.e. you can drop 10 lb of water easy during the last week of prep and you can gain back 15 lb of water in 4 days if you dont' just take it easy. Water retention to the point of feelign like you have water balloons for legs just plain old sucks and its not necessary so just give a little leaway for the "dismount" from this short term effort.

:) Its a good example of not when to do this :)

The one competitor that I still can't speak for are the female fitness people -- these girls get almost as ripped up lean as the BBs but they have to do a 3 minute flying splits, mandatory strength moves and bouncing around like crazy little 14 yr old Roumanian Olympic gymnasts as well. I have no idea how they do this on a depletion schedule.
