You guys know there is a reason a diabetic can drink litres and litres of diet coke and be fine. Yet if they did the same with regular soda, they'd be fucked.
I've heard that the aspartame in diet coke can encourage your body to catabolize muscle uder certain conditions. I don't see how it could affect insulin though. I'm a diabetic and I drink the hell out of diet coke and diet mountain dew.
I don't remember the specifics of the study... but.. I believe it said that while the sugar replacement does not spike your insulin it will do nothing to aid in lbs loss.
After reading the study I dropped the diet soda and went to water. I lost 5lbs fast!
I don't know if drinks containing artificial sweetners will cause a non-diabetic's insulin levels to rise or not. But argument doesn't fit either way. I thought about that too. The reason diabetics can consume products with artificial sweetners is because no matter what it isn't real sugar. That way insulin is not needed to metabolize it.

Well your body has to metabolize everything that you put in your body but...
I know I can be confusing lol. What I mean is if you're diabetic and not introducing real sugar (ie, diet soda) into your system there is no need for insulin to be released or injected. That doesn't nessasarily mean that if you aren't diabetic that your body doesn't get "tricked" by artificial sweeters.
